Is the 2025 BMW M4 a good car?

The 2025 BMW M4 earns an 8.00/10 expert rating.

It delivers serious pace, sharp handling, and strong adjustability, while still offering four-passenger seating and usable cargo space. The trade-offs are clear: it is expensive and the back seat is cramped.

With 36.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 BMW M4 reliable?

The 2025 BMW M4 is built around a high-output performance formula, so long-term ownership is more about accepting complexity and cost than expecting simple, low-stress running. Its performance hardware and advanced tech can make it rewarding to live with, but they also raise the stakes if you want a used example that has been well maintained.

BMW’s performance tuning gives the M4 a broad range of driving personalities, from relaxed cruising to aggressive track use, which is a sign of strong engineering depth. The cost-effectiveness commentary also makes clear that this is a car you buy for the M division experience rather than for financial practicality.

If you’re shopping used, the main ownership risk is that a neglected example could be expensive to sort out, so service history and condition matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW M4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The coupe comes in base, M4 Competition xDrive, and M4 CS xDrive specifications, while the convertible is offered only as the Competition xDrive. The base coupe is the least expensive route into the model, but the Competition xDrive versions add more power and all-wheel-drive traction, and the M4 CS xDrive is the limited-production choice.
• Powertrain: The M4 uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, with output ranging from 473 horsepower to 523 hp depending on transmission choice. The base coupe with the six-speed manual is the least powerful and slowest to 100 km/h, while the Competition xDrive models are the quickest.
• Safety package: Every M4 includes Driving Assistant, which brings forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, Active Guard collision preparation and driver monitoring, and BMW Assist e-Call. The available Advanced Driver Assistance package adds evasive steering assist, lane centring assist, lane change assist, emergency stop assist, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: BMW Operating System 8.5 powers the dual-screen Live Cockpit Professional setup. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, cloud-based navigation, and an Intelligent Personal Assistant are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says to expect 12.6 L/100 km combined in the M4 Coupe, 12.7 L/100 km combined in the M4 Competition xDrive, and 12.9 L/100 km in the cabriolet and the M4 CS.

Which 2025 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW M4 is offered in 4 trim levels: base, M4 Competition xDrive, M4 CS xDrive, and M4 Competition xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the one to choose if you want the least expensive way into the M4 and you value the six-speed manual. It still gives you the core M4 experience, but it is the slowest version and the one best suited to drivers who care more about involvement than outright pace.
• M4 Competition xDrive: This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest all-round mix of speed, traction, and everyday usability. It adds the higher-output tune and xDrive, and it is available in both coupe and convertible form.
• M4 CS xDrive: Choose this if you want the most exclusive, limited-production version and you’re prioritising maximum performance character over value.

Every M4 includes the Driving Assistant safety suite, and the available Advanced Driver Assistance package adds more sophisticated driver aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW M4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to be picky if you’re shopping carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 55 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.00% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $107,129 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $108,744 CAD sits slightly below last year's $116,928 CAD.

That tells you the market has moved in a buyer-friendly direction, which can help you negotiate if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it also suggests that the M4’s value has softened enough that you should be realistic about resale expectations. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation pain later.

Is the 2025 BMW M4 safe?

The 2025 BMW M4 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every BMW M4 has Driving Assistant, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, Active Guard collision preparation and driver monitoring, plus BMW Assist e-Call. The available Advanced Driver Assistance package adds evasive steering assist, lane centring assist, lane change assist, emergency stop assist, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The available high-resolution surround-view camera system is especially useful because visibility is compromised when the top is up, and it helps protect the front air dam and wheels in tight spaces.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.00% compared with last year.
• The 2025 update matters to you, including the light refresh, the slight power bump for Competition xDrive models, and the new infotainment operating system.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the M4 with a strong mix of performance and market softness, the 2025 is the one to target. If you’re mainly focused on stretching your budget, a nearby year may still make sense, but the 2025 gives you a compelling combination of updated tech and improved pricing.
