Is the 2025 BMW M4 a good car?

The 2025 BMW M4 earns an 8/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

It’s a compelling choice if you want a car that can be comfortable for daily driving yet still feel track-ready when you ask for more. The main trade-offs are its expensive price, hit-and-miss tech, and cramped back seat.

With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a decent amount of market flexibility if you shop carefully.

Is the 2025 BMW M4 reliable?

The 2025 BMW M4’s expert assessment points to a car that’s built around performance first, with strong hardware and a well-developed chassis rather than a low-drama ownership experience. Its twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six, adaptive suspension, and performance-focused braking and handling systems all support that character.

From a dependability standpoint, the M4’s performance hardware is substantial, but that also means you should expect a more specialised ownership profile than you would from a mainstream coupe or convertible. If you’re buying used, long-term ownership risk is more about the cost and complexity of maintaining a high-performance BMW than about basic capability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW M4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base coupe gives you the core M4 experience with a manual transmission and the least power, while the Competition xDrive models add more output and all-wheel-drive capability. The M4 CS xDrive sits at the top of the range, and the convertible is offered only as a Competition xDrive. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment and performance.
• Powertrain: You’re shopping a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, with output ranging from 473 horsepower to 523 horsepower depending on transmission choice. The manual base coupe is the least powerful version, while the Competition xDrive models are the quickest.
• Safety package: Every M4 includes Driving Assistant, which brings forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, Active Guard collision preparation and driver monitoring, and BMW Assist e-Call. The available Advanced Driver Assistance package adds evasive steering assist, lane centring assist, lane change assist, emergency stop assist, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The M4 uses BMW Operating System 8.5 with Live Cockpit Professional dual-screen instrumentation and infotainment. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, cloud-based navigation, and an Intelligent Personal Assistant are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says to expect 12.6 L/100 km combined in the M4 Coupe, 12.7 L/100 km combined in the M4 Competition xDrive, and 12.9 L/100 km combined in the cabriolet and the M4 CS.

Which 2025 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW M4 is offered in 4 trim levels: base, M4 Competition xDrive, M4 CS xDrive, and M4 convertible Competition xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the one to choose if you want the manual transmission and the lowest entry point into the M4 lineup. It delivers the core M car experience, but it’s also the least powerful version, so it makes the most sense if you value involvement over outright pace.
• M4 Competition xDrive: This is the best-value pick for most shoppers because it adds the stronger 523-horsepower tune and xDrive traction, making it the most rounded choice for speed and all-weather confidence. If you want the most complete all-rounder, start here.
• M4 CS xDrive: Choose this if you want the most focused, highest-output version in the range and you’re willing to pay for the extra exclusivity. It suits buyers who care most about maximum performance.
• M4 convertible Competition xDrive: Pick this if open-air driving matters to you and you still want the stronger Competition xDrive setup. It’s the right choice if you want the M4 experience with top-down appeal.

The available Advanced Driver Assistance package adds more sophisticated driver aids, including lane centring assist, lane change assist, evasive steering assist, and Traffic Jam Assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW M4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and disciplined.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 53 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.48% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $106,998 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $107,801 CAD sits slightly below last year's $117,793 CAD.

That price movement suggests the M4 has become a bit more approachable for used buyers than it was a year ago. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to the prior-year average. For a future seller, the key will be how well the car is equipped and maintained, since high-performance models tend to reward desirable specs and clean condition.

Is the 2025 BMW M4 safe?

The 2025 BMW M4 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every BMW M4 has Driving Assistant, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, Active Guard collision preparation and driver monitoring, plus BMW Assist e-Call. The available Advanced Driver Assistance package adds evasive steering assist, lane centring assist, lane change assist, emergency stop assist, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The available high-resolution surround-view camera system is especially useful because visibility is compromised with the top up, and it helps protect the front air dam and wheels in tight spaces. Traffic Jam Assist works well overall, but it can be overly eager about telling you to pay attention.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.48% compared with last year.
• The 2025 update matters to you, including the light refresh, the slight power bump for Competition xDrive models, and the new infotainment operating system.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the M4 with the latest updates and a softer used-market price than last year, the 2025 is the one to target. If you’re mainly focused on value, a nearby year may still make sense, but the 2025 gives you a strong mix of performance, equipment, and market availability.
