Is the 2025 BMW 2 Series a good car?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe earns a 6.33/10 from our experts.

The model scores 7/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

It works best if you want an affordable entry point into BMW ownership that still leans sporty, with standard all-wheel drive and plenty of cargo space. The trade-offs are clear: the styling is uninspired, the technology can be unintuitive, and the ride quality is firm.

With 34.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you a decent chance to find a well-priced example.

Is the 2025 BMW 2 Series reliable?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is presented as a relatively affordable entry into BMW ownership, and its standard all-wheel drive and updated powertrain suggest a solid everyday-use foundation. The expert evaluation also notes that the available safety and driver-assistance features performed as expected, with no false alarms or technical glitches in testing.

Its performance hardware is straightforward: a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and standard AWD. That setup should be familiar and manageable for long-term ownership, especially if you value a compact luxury car that is tuned more for driving enjoyment than complexity.

BMW also includes over-the-air software updates, which can help keep the system current over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright mechanical drama and more about living with a firm ride and technology that may feel frustrating if you want a simpler ownership experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW 2 Series?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2 Series Gran Coupe is positioned as BMW’s most affordable model, but the cabin and exterior styling are still more restrained than dramatic. You should pay attention to whether the car has the equipment you want, because the base setup focuses on value rather than visual flair.
• Powertrain: The Canadian model uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and standard AWD. It is tuned for quick, confident everyday driving rather than outright excitement.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking proximity sensors, and a semi-automated parking system. The optional Driving Assistant Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and traffic jam assist.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system. Over-the-air software updates and BMW Digital Key capability are also included.
• Fuel efficiency: Official Canadian fuel-consumption ratings are not available. The U.S. EPA rates it at 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving.

Which 2025 BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series is offered in 1 trim level: 228 xDrive Gran Coupe.

Here's the short version:

The 228 xDrive Gran Coupe is the one to buy because it is the only Canadian-spec version and already includes the core appeal of the model: standard AWD, the turbocharged four-cylinder, the dual-clutch automatic, and a strong list of tech features. If you want the best-value path into this car, this is it.

The safety package is worth considering if you want more relaxed highway driving, since the optional Driving Assistant Professional package adds adaptive cruise control and lane-centering-style support.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW 2 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 91 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.99% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,875 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW 2 Series's resale value?

The current average of $43,726 CAD sits slightly below last year's $58,292 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has moved in your favour if you're buying now, but it also means a future seller may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you own one for a few years, resale value will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the car has the right equipment. For a used buyer, the softer pricing can make this a more approachable entry into BMW ownership.

Is the 2025 BMW 2 Series safe?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe comes with standard advanced safety and driver assistance features such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking proximity sensors, and a semi-automated parking system.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The optional Driving Assistant Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and traffic jam assist. If you want the most complete safety setup, that package is the one to look for on a used example.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.99% compared with last year.
• The redesigned model’s extra power and technology appeal to you, and you want the most affordable BMW entry point with standard AWD.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with updated power and tech, the 2025 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive and can live with an older model’s different character, a nearby year may still make sense, but the 2025’s softer pricing makes it the cleaner buy for shoppers focused on value and current equipment.
