How much does the 2024 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 12.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 196 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2024 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Volvo XC90 earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

It stands out for its timeless design, comfortable cabin, and range of powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid variant. That makes it appealing if you want a three-row luxury SUV that leans into style, quality, and technology rather than flash.

The trade-offs are clear: it is showing its age in several ways, its Pilot Assist behaviour is concerning, and its value for money is questionable. Even so, the market still shows 31.1% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s safety-first reputation and its well-established platform support its case as a dependable luxury SUV. Its powertrain lineup is mature, and the plug-in hybrid system is described as easy to live with when you keep it charged for everyday driving.

The performance notes also point to a powertrain that feels strong and polished rather than experimental. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that its ageing architecture and advanced driver-assistance behaviour may feel less refined than newer rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XC90 is sold in Core, Plus, and Ultimate trim levels. The cabin is dated but fitted with rich materials, and Ultimate trim adds features such as massaging front seats, a premium headliner, a high-end Bowers & Wilkins audio system, and a trailer hitch on the test vehicle. Base versions will feel less lavish than the upper trims.
• Powertrain: You can choose the B6 mild-hybrid four-cylinder or the Recharge T8 plug-in hybrid. The Recharge T8 adds an 18.8-kWh battery and a 107-kW electric motor, with 53 kilometres of estimated electric-only range and 455 horsepower.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist pairs adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assist, and the XC90 also includes large-animal detection and a notification system that alerts you when traffic ahead starts moving again. Volvo does not offer a hands-free driving assistance system in this SUV.
• Infotainment: The 9-inch touchscreen uses Google Built-in, with Google Maps, Google Play, and Google Assistant. Apple CarPlay is standard, and the system includes a 12-inch digital instrumentation panel. A head-up display and surround-view camera are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The Recharge T8 is rated at 8.9 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 9.6 L/100 km in mixed use.

Which 2024 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point if you want the XC90’s design, standard all-wheel drive, and Google Built-in tech without stretching to the pricier trims. It gives you the essentials, but it is the least lavish way to buy this SUV.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want a stronger balance of equipment and price. It should be the first stop for most shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and convenience without pushing as far up the price ladder as Ultimate.
• Ultimate: Choose this if you want the richest cabin experience, including the most upscale materials and the most premium-feeling equipment. It suits you best if comfort and luxury matter more than value.

Volvo’s safety equipment is comprehensive, but the brand does not offer a hands-free driving assistance system in this SUV.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Volvo XC90?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 196 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.88% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $55,977 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $55,977 CAD sits slightly below last year's $64,255 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the XC90 has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more competition when it is time to trade in or list their vehicle. A model that has already moved down in price can be harder to position as a premium used buy unless it is well equipped and well maintained.

The good news for resale is that the XC90 still has strong appeal through its styling, comfort, and safety reputation. Those qualities help support demand, especially for shoppers who want a luxury three-row SUV with a polished image.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2024 Volvo XC90 earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating. In addition, the IIHS says the XC90 was a Top Safety Pick+ in 2023.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo equips the XC90 with Pilot Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assist, along with large-animal detection and a system that alerts you when traffic ahead starts moving again. Those features cover the basics well, but the SUV does not offer a hands-free driving assistance system.

The main caution is Pilot Assist itself. It struggled with curves, passing lanes, and some lane markings, and it made a serious steering error when exiting a highway. That does not erase the XC90’s strong crash-test reputation, but it is worth keeping in mind if you rely heavily on semi-autonomous driving aids.

Should I buy a 2024 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It carries over unchanged, so you know what you are getting: a stylish, comfortable luxury SUV with a plug-in hybrid option.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $50,203 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $55,977 CAD average.
• It brings a familiar, polished cabin with updated mild-hybrid powertrains.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $71,433 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $55,977 CAD average.
• It adds updated styling, materials, and feature offerings with mechanical tweaks for better ride comfort and handling.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and familiarity, the 2024 is the sensible middle ground. If you are shopping on a tighter budget, the 2023 is the value play. If you want the newest and most polished version, the 2025 is the upgrade path.
