Is the 2024 Subaru WRX a good car?

The 2024 Subaru WRX stands out as a rally-bred sport compact that still puts standard all-wheel drive at the centre of its appeal. It is based on the Subaru Global Platform and comes only as a sedan, with a turbocharged 2.4-litre Subaru Boxer engine making 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission and Subaru’s Performance Transmission, and the car also includes active torque vectoring as standard. For enthusiasts, the combination of a manual option, all-wheel drive, and a broad torque curve gives the WRX much of its character.

The 2024 model also offers a useful spread of equipment depending on trim. The base car includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, heated front seats and side mirrors, automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a pair of seven-inch touchscreens, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a six-speaker audio system. Moving up to the Sport adds 18-inch wheels, LED fog lights, a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, an 11.6-inch touchscreen, Subaru’s STARLINK multimedia system, and driver-assistance features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist. The Sport-tech adds adaptive headlights, faux leather seats with microsuede inserts, navigation, and heated rear seats, while the GT brings adaptive dampers and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

There are trade-offs, though. The WRX’s strengths are matched by some practical compromises, including outdated technology, poor fuel economy, and a cramped back seat in older models. Even so, the 2024 Subaru WRX remains appealing because it delivers the kind of engaging handling and all-weather traction that have long defined the nameplate, while still offering enough everyday equipment to make it usable as a daily driver.

With 36.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that performance-focused driving and higher operating costs can make upkeep less forgiving than in a mainstream compact sedan.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru WRX?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 229 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.32% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,626 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru WRX's resale value?

The current average of $33,626 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,675 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favour, which can make the WRX easier to purchase now than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that also means resale expectations should stay realistic unless the car is especially well equipped or unusually clean. If you buy at the right price today, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.32% compared with last year.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $30,905 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $33,626 CAD average.
• It offers stylish design and great handling.

The bottom line: The 2024 is the better pick if you want the newer model-year pricing context and a solid pool of listings to compare. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2023 is the smarter secondary path because it delivers the WRX formula for less.
