Is the 2024 Subaru WRX a good car?

The 2024 Subaru WRX stands out as a practical performance car that still leans hard into its rally-bred identity. It comes standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and the WRX’s turbocharged Boxer engine and sharp handling are central to its appeal. For you, that means a compact sedan that feels more engaging than the average commuter car while still working as an everyday driver.

It also offers a useful mix of everyday equipment and enthusiast hardware. The cabin includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the Sport trim adds an 11.6-inch touchscreen, Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance suite, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, including adaptive headlights, faux leather seats with microsuede inserts, navigation, heated rear seats, and adaptive dampers on the GT.

The WRX remains distinctive because it blends year-round traction, manual-transmission availability, and genuine performance character in a package that is still usable every day. 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Subaru WRX reliable?

The 2024 Subaru WRX stands out because it keeps the formula that made the nameplate famous: a turbocharged Boxer engine, standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and a focus on driving enjoyment. It is a sedan-only performance car, and it still offers a six-speed manual transmission for you if you want a more involved experience.

Even in its more mainstream trims, the WRX is well equipped for a sporty compact sedan. The lineup includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and higher trims add larger touchscreens, Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance suite, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist. Fuel economy is not a strong point, though, and the WRX remains a car that prioritises performance over efficiency.

For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about accepting a performance-first package than expecting a low-stress economy car.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru WRX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 222 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.62% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,853 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru WRX's resale value?

The current average of $33,948 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,982 CAD.

That price movement suggests the WRX has softened enough to improve your entry point as a buyer. If you plan to sell later, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. The current trend also means future depreciation may be less favourable if the market stays soft.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.62% compared with last year.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $31,195 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $33,948 CAD average.
• The 2023 keeps the WRX's rally-inspired handling and manual-transmission appeal.

The 2024 is the better primary choice if you want the newer model-year pricing context and a broader current-market selection. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2023 is the smarter secondary path because it delivers the WRX formula for less money.
