Is the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Drivers consistently praise its build quality, comfort, handling, fuel efficiency, safety features, and value for money. It also fits well if you want a compact crossover with standard all-wheel drive and everyday practicality.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and interior materials that feel cheap. Even so, the Crosstrek’s broad capability and useful feature mix make it a strong fit if you want a small, versatile vehicle for daily driving and rougher weather.

The market also looks supportive, with 27.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Subaru Crosstrek?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels, all-season tyres, 22 centimetres of ground clearance, and standard roof rails, but the Wilderness adds unique exterior and interior design elements, a ladder-style roof rack, StarTex synthetic leather, all-weather floormats, and an interior LED light in the cargo area.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-litre four-cylinder makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 182 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. All trims use a CVT, and the Wilderness gets different gearing for more aggressive uphill terrain.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist technology is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. New for 2024, it uses a wider-angle lens, and automatic emergency steering is included on cars equipped with blind-spot monitoring.
• Infotainment: The 11.6-inch touchscreen is standard on all but the Convenience trim. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, while a wireless charger is standard on the Onyx and Limited trims.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 8.8 L/100 km in the city and 7.1 L/100 km on the highway for the 2.0-litre model, while the 2.5-litre version is rated at 8.9 L/100 km city and 7.2 L/100 km highway.

Which 2024 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 4 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Onyx, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Crosstrek’s core appeal: standard all-wheel drive, 22 centimetres of ground clearance, roof rails, and the model’s practical outdoorsy character. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while keeping the Crosstrek’s everyday usefulness intact. It also gets paddle shifters, and the 2.0-litre engine remains the more affordable choice if you do not need the stronger 2.5-litre unit.
• Onyx: This trim is a good step up if you want the stronger 2.5-litre engine, dual-function X-Mode with mud and deep snow settings, hill-descent control, and a wireless charger. It suits you if you want more capability and convenience without jumping to the top trim.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the most comfort and tech in the standard lineup, including the 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and the stronger 2.5-litre engine. It is the most complete non-Wilderness choice.

EyeSight is standard across the lineup, which is a useful safety advantage no matter which trim you choose.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru Crosstrek?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 693 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.16% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,235 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $30,248 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,296 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations if they plan to trade in or list privately. A lower current average can help you buy at a better entry point today, yet it may also limit upside if prices stay under pressure.

The Crosstrek’s broad appeal should still help support demand over time, especially because it combines standard all-wheel drive, practicality, and strong owner satisfaction.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The Subaru Crosstrek has been awarded a Top Safety Pick designation by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) since 2013, and the 2023 model earned five stars overall from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist technology is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. For 2024, it also uses a wider-angle lens, and automatic emergency steering is included on cars equipped with blind-spot monitoring.

The main caveat is that the 2024 model has not yet been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA, so the safety case is based on the brand’s established track record and the standard equipment list rather than fresh test results.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a refreshed third-generation design, a new Wilderness trim level, a larger 11.6-inch touchscreen, and upgraded safety features.

The bottom line: The 2024 Crosstrek is the right pick if you want the newest version of Subaru’s compact crossover formula, especially with its refreshed tech and safety upgrades. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2024 gives you the strongest mix of features, standard all-wheel drive, and current-market value.
