What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Subaru Crosstrek?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, 22 centimetres of ground clearance, and standard roof rails, but the Wilderness trim adds unique exterior and interior design elements, a ladder-style roof rack, StarTex synthetic leather, all-weather floormats, and an interior cargo-area light. If you want the most adventurous version, the Wilderness stands apart clearly.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.5-litre four-cylinder returns 182 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. The CVT is standard, and the 2.0-litre is described as poky, so you may want the stronger engine if you value easier passing and more relaxed driving.
• Safety package: Subaru EyeSight is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. New for 2024, it uses a wider-angle lens, and automatic emergency steering is included on cars equipped with blind-spot monitoring.
• Infotainment: The 11.6-inch touchscreen is standard on all but the Convenience trim. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, while the Limited trim adds a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and the Onyx and Limited trims get a wireless charger.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 8.8 L/100 km in the city and 7.1 L/100 km on the highway for the 2.0-litre Crosstrek. The 2.5-litre version is rated at 8.9 L/100 km city and 7.2 L/100 km highway.

Which 2024 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 4 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Onyx, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Crosstrek’s core strengths: standard AWD, EyeSight, and the rugged utility that defines the model. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying below the higher-priced versions. It also gets paddle shifters, which may appeal if you want a bit more control from the CVT.
• Onyx: This trim adds more premium convenience and a more capable X-Mode setup with mud and deep snow settings, making it a stronger pick if you want extra traction features and a more upscale feel.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich mainstream trim, with the 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless charger, and the stronger 2.5-litre engine. It suits you if you want the most comfort and tech without moving to the Wilderness.

Safety-package note: EyeSight is standard across the lineup, and automatic emergency steering is included on cars equipped with blind-spot monitoring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru Crosstrek?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 834 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.69% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,862 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $29,862 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,068 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour now, but it also means a future seller may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. If you buy at the right number today, you may reduce the risk of overpaying relative to the current market. The Crosstrek’s broad appeal and strong equipment list should still help support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The Subaru Crosstrek has been awarded a Top Safety Pick designation by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety since 2013, and the 2023 model earned five stars overall from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru EyeSight is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. For 2024, it also uses a wider-angle lens, and automatic emergency steering is included on cars equipped with blind-spot monitoring.

The main caveat is that the 2024 model had not yet been crash-tested at the time of review, so the latest results were still pending.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings multiple engine options, a dazzling touchscreen, upgraded safety features, and a new Wilderness trim level.

The bottom line: The 2024 Crosstrek is the better pick if you want the refreshed model-year upgrades, especially the improved tech and safety equipment. If you’re more price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with older Crosstrek listings to see whether the savings outweigh the newer features.
