Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating, which points to a strong overall case for shoppers who want compact-truck utility in a distinctive package. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It stands out because it wraps useful truck-like versatility in a compact, quirky package, with plenty of utility for its size and a stylish design that helps it feel distinctive rather than purely practical. It also brings a peppy powertrain and Hyundai’s strong warranty, which makes it appealing if you want extra peace of mind.

The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and a cramped back seat. That means it fits you best if you value everyday utility, city-friendly manoeuvrability, and character more than maximum efficiency or rear-seat space.

30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Hyundai’s strong warranty is a meaningful ownership advantage, and the Santa Cruz is described as a great little runabout that does the truck stuff most people need. Its peppy powertrain and excellent on-road manners also support the impression of a well-rounded, easy-to-live-with vehicle.

Hyundai offers a five-year/100,000-kilometre new vehicle warranty and powertrain warranty in Canada, including roadside assistance for five years with unlimited kilometres.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that poor fuel economy and compact rear-seat space may matter more as your needs change.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Preferred trim is the starting point, while the Ultimate adds more equipment and a more upscale feel. The base setup gets the core design and utility, but the higher trim brings more of the features that make the Santa Cruz feel fully equipped.
• Powertrain: Canadian units are sold exclusively with all-wheel drive, and the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder is the stronger engine choice, with 282 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. It is described as surprisingly peppy, with smooth shifts from the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
• Safety package: Hyundai’s suite includes forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, safe exit warning and rear occupant alert. Adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian-, cyclist- and junction-turning detection are optional on the Preferred trim’s Trend Package, while the Ultimate gets everything.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch display infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available, and there is no physical volume knob.
• Fuel efficiency: Expect to burn 12.2 L/100 km in city driving, 8.7 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.6 L/100 km combined. At the end of the test week, it averaged 12.1 L/100 km over nearly 950 kilometres.

Which 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz trim should I buy?

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz is offered in 2 trim levels: Preferred and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point and the value play if you want the Santa Cruz’s core utility, styling and standard safety equipment without stretching to the top trim. It gives you the essentials, and the available Trend Package adds useful upgrades if you want more convenience and driver assistance.
• Ultimate: This is the trim to choose if you want the most complete Santa Cruz experience. It adds the strongest feature set, including Hyundai’s Highway Drive Assist, the blind-spot view monitor, wireless charging and more of the premium equipment that makes the trucklet feel fully loaded.

The Ultimate gets the full safety package, while the Preferred can add some advanced driver-assistance features through the Trend Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 195 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.35% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,686 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz's resale value?

The current average of $35,921 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,521 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Santa Cruz has become more accessible for used buyers, which can help demand stay healthy if you decide to sell later. A lower entry point can also make it easier for your listing to stand out against newer, pricier alternatives.

At the same time, the year-over-year decline means future resale gains may be more limited unless market conditions improve. If you buy well now, you may be better positioned to protect value than someone who paid closer to the peak.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the same useful, quirky formula with a peppy powertrain and strong warranty.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $37,940 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $35,921 CAD average.
• It adds new tech, styling updates and off-roading enhancements.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2024 is the smarter buy. If you want the newer model with added tech and updates, the 2025 is worth the extra spend, especially if you are less price-sensitive.
