Is the 2024 Buick Encore GX reliable?

Natural Resources Canada lists combined fuel consumption at 7.8 L/100 km in FWD, or 8.8 L/100 km with AWD, which gives you a useful benchmark for day-to-day running costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the infotainment and performance compromises may matter more as the vehicle ages.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Buick Encore GX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir trims all share the refreshed look, but the Avenir adds its own unique grille and chrome trim, while the Sport Touring can bring black roof, black mirrors, and black roof rails. The base trim misses some of the visual polish and premium touches that make the higher trims feel more upscale.
• Powertrain: In Canada, you get a 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It is available with FWD or AWD, and the AWD system can be selected by the driver.
• Safety package: Buick’s Driver Confidence package is standard and includes lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Rear park assist, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera are extra.
• Infotainment: You get an 11-inch touchscreen paired with an 8-inch digital gauge cluster under one pane of glass. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and USB-A, USB-C, a wireless charging pad, and a 120-volt outlet are available.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Encore GX at 7.8 L/100 km in FWD and 8.8 L/100 km with AWD.

Which 2024 Buick Encore GX trim should I buy?

The 2024 Buick Encore GX is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it makes the Encore GX’s core appeal accessible: the refreshed design, standard safety suite, and the 1.3-litre turbo engine. It suits you if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• Sport Touring: This trim adds a more distinctive look, including black roof, black mirrors, and black roof rails where equipped. It is the best-value choice if you want extra style without jumping to the top trim.
• Avenir: This is the most upscale version, with its own unique grille and chrome trim. Choose it if you want the most premium appearance and are willing to pay for it.

Buick’s Driver Confidence package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim to get the core safety features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Buick Encore GX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 273 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,740 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Buick Encore GX's resale value?

The current average of $28,813 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,902 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy now, you may benefit from the current dip, but resale gains are likely to depend on condition, mileage, and trim appeal. Higher-trim examples with stronger equipment and cleaner histories should be easier to move later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Buick Encore GX safe?

The 2024 Buick Encore GX earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, including five-star ratings in frontal crash and side crash, and a four-star rating in rollover.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Buick’s Driver Confidence package is standard and includes lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Rear park assist, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera are extra.

A key caveat is that the 2024 model has not yet been rated by IIHS, so there is no current IIHS result to lean on for this model year.

Should I buy a 2024 Buick Encore GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The refreshed model brings an updated look and a new touchscreen.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,501 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $28,813 CAD average.
• It is a practical placeholder with broad appeal for buyers who want a small, easy-to-live-with SUV with a more upscale badge.

The bottom line: If you want the refreshed styling, current-market pricing, and the latest equipment, the 2024 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2023 is the smarter value play.
