Is the 2024 Buick Encore GX a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

The 2024 Buick Encore GX is a smartly refreshed subcompact crossover with an attractive design, a comfortable ride, and impressive cargo space for its segment. It also brings a more upscale feel than many small crossovers, while staying practical for everyday use.

The trade-offs are that the new touchscreen underwhelms and performance could be better, so you may want to look elsewhere if driving engagement matters most.

With 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2024 Buick Encore GX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Encore GX is positioned as Buick’s best-selling model, and its economical nature plus comfortable ride point to an easy-to-live-with ownership experience. The expert review also describes it as a sensible, practical crossover with decent powertrain performance for daily use.

Its powertrain is described as responsive enough for everyday driving, though not quick, and the ride is smooth over rough pavement. That combination suggests a used example should be a low-stress choice if you value comfort over excitement.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Buick Encore GX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir trims differ in appearance and upscale touches, with the Avenir adding its own unique grille and chrome trim. The base trim misses some of the visual polish and premium feel found higher up the range.
• Powertrain: In Canada, the 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine is standard, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and available FWD or AWD. It is described as economical and responsive enough, but not especially quick.
• Safety package: Buick’s Driver Confidence package is standard and includes lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Rear park assist, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera are extra.
• Infotainment: You get an 11-inch touchscreen paired with an 8-inch digital gauge cluster under one pane of glass. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with USB-A and USB-C ports, and a wireless charging pad and 120-volt outlet are available.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada gives the Encore GX a combined fuel rating of 7.8 L/100 km in FWD, while AWD is rated at 8.8 L/100 km. In testing, it returned 7.5 L/100 km over 585 kilometres.

Which 2024 Buick Encore GX trim should I buy?

The 2024 Buick Encore GX is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Encore GX experience with the standard safety package, the 11-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone mirroring, and the comfortable, practical character that defines the model.
• Sport Touring: This is the best-value choice if you want a more distinctive look, since it adds blacked-out exterior touches and can be paired with some of the more expressive colour combinations.
• Avenir: This is the most upscale version, with its own unique grille and chrome trim, plus the most premium presentation in the lineup.

Buick’s Driver Confidence package is standard across the range, so even the base trim gets a strong safety feature set.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Buick Encore GX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 255 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.08% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,716 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Buick Encore GX's resale value?

The current average of $28,716 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,239 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Encore GX has moved into a more buyer-friendly position, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if they price competitively. The current range also shows there is still room for values to move depending on trim, condition, and equipment.

Because the model has strong owner satisfaction and broad everyday appeal, demand should remain steady among shoppers who want a comfortable, practical small crossover. That helps support resale value over time, even if the market is currently softer than it was a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Buick Encore GX safe?

The 2024 Buick Encore GX earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, including five-star ratings for frontal crash and side crash, and a four-star rollover rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Buick’s Driver Confidence package is standard and includes lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Rear park assist, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera are extra.

The Encore GX also includes Teen Driver and Buckle to Drive as standard features. One caveat is that the automatic braking system cannot be adjusted for earlier or later intervention, and the IIHS has not yet rated this model year.

Should I buy a 2024 Buick Encore GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.08% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 brings a refreshed look, a new touchscreen, and the first Avenir trim for the Encore GX.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $23,971 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $28,716 CAD average.
• It is a comfortable, practical entry-level crossover with plenty of cargo space and easy-to-use technology.

The bottom line: Choose the 2024 if you want the refreshed styling, updated tech, and broader trim range. If your priority is saving money, the 2023 remains the better-value path, especially if you can find one in good condition with the equipment you want.
