Is the 2024 Acura MDX a good car?

The MDX’s strengths are easy to see in its strong engines, sharp handling, and generous standard equipment. The trade-offs are just as clear: the infotainment system is frustrating, the ride can be firm for some, and the third row is small.

With 36.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Acura MDX reliable?

The MDX is presented as a well-rounded luxury SUV with strong safety credentials and a broad set of standard features. Its standard powertrain is a 3.5-litre V6 with 290 horsepower, and the expert notes describe it as strong and well suited to everyday driving and highway use.

The MDX also comes with a four-year, 80,000-kilometre limited warranty, which helps support ownership confidence. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about whether the frustrating infotainment system will bother you over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Acura MDX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Tech trim gives you the core luxury experience, but higher trims add meaningful upgrades. The A-Spec brings sportier styling, ventilated front seats, and a 16-speaker ELS audio system, while the Platinum Elite adds a surround-view camera system and a head-up display. The Type S Ultra is the most feature-rich version, with 25-speaker audio and massaging front seats.
• Powertrain: The standard model uses a 3.5-litre V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, while the Type S Ultra upgrades to a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 with 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. All Canadian MDX models use a 10-speed automatic and SH-AWD.
• Safety package: The MDX includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning, lane keeping assist, driver attention monitoring, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. A surround-view camera system and a head-up display start on the Platinum Elite grade.
• Infotainment: The MDX has a 12.3-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, HD radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, multiple USB ports, a fully digital instrument panel, and wireless device charging. The interface is not intuitive, so make sure you can live with it.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard MDX is rated at 12.6 L/100 km city, 9.4 L/100 km highway, and 11.2 L/100 km combined. The Type S Ultra rises to 13.8 L/100 km city, 11.2 L/100 km highway, and 12.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2024 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2024 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: Tech, A-Spec, Platinum Elite, Type S Ultra.

Here's the short version:

• Tech: This is the entry point, but it still brings a strong equipment list, including tri-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic moonroof, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated outboard rear seats, navigation, genuine leather upholstery, and the standard 12-speaker ELS audio system. It’s the one to target if you want the core MDX experience without stretching for extras.
• A-Spec: This trim adds a sportier look and feel, plus ventilated front seats, UltraSuede seat inserts, and an upgraded 16-speaker ELS audio system. It suits you if you want a more distinctive cabin and a bit more comfort in warm weather.
• Platinum Elite: This is the best-value upgrade if you want more luxury and convenience. It adds ambient lighting with 23 positions, roof rails, open-pore wood inserts, 16-way power-adjustable front seats, a surround-view camera system, and a head-up display.
• Type S Ultra: This is the performance and feature flagship, with the twin-scroll turbocharged V6, Brembo brakes, adaptive air suspension, 25-speaker audio, massaging front seats, and the most elaborate cabin treatment. It’s the right pick if you want the most powerful and most luxurious MDX.

The Platinum Elite and Type S Ultra also add the surround-view camera system and head-up display.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Acura MDX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 205 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $51,876 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $52,094 CAD sits slightly below last year's $60,252 CAD.

That price movement suggests the MDX has become more accessible for used buyers, which can be helpful if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it also means you may face more pressure to price competitively if the market stays soft. If you buy well today, you may be better positioned to absorb some depreciation later.

Is the 2024 Acura MDX safe?

The 2024 MDX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA and a best score of Good in all phases of IIHS evaluation. It also earned a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The MDX comes with a comprehensive suite of standard driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning, lane keeping assist, driver attention monitoring, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. A surround-view camera system and a head-up display are included starting with the Platinum Elite grade.

One caveat is that the infotainment setup can pull your attention away from the road because you have to use the touchpad rather than a touchscreen.

Should I buy a 2024 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.
• It adds a new Type S Ultra trim with stronger performance and more luxury.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $47,389 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $52,094 CAD average.
• It offers a stylish, engaging three-row luxury SUV with strong safety ratings.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $59,120 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $52,094 CAD average.
• It brings a simpler, more intuitive user experience and easier-to-live-with technology.

The bottom line: The 2024 is the best all-around pick if you want the newest version with the Type S Ultra added to the lineup and you can live with the infotainment system. If price matters most, the 2023 is the value play; if you want a more polished interface, the 2025 is the better upgrade path.
