Used 2023 Volvo XC40 for Sale nearNewmarket, ON

How much does the 2023 Volvo XC40 cost?

Prices have softened 19.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 106 listings available, which suggests you have some room to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC40 a good car?

The 2023 Volvo XC40 is a solid choice if you want a compact luxury SUV with a distinctive design, a comfortable ride, and updated tech, though it is not the most practical option if cargo space matters most. It earns a user rating of 2/5 and an expert rating of 7.5/10.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Volvo’s refreshed styling, minimalist cabin, and standard all-wheel drive give it a premium feel, while the mild-hybrid powertrains add smoother everyday driving. The trade-offs are clear: cargo space is limited, and the Recharge model is expensive.

With 29.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some value to be found if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC40 reliable?

The 2023 Volvo XC40 leans on Volvo’s safety-first reputation and a refined driving character, but its newly added mild-hybrid hardware adds some ownership complexity. The 2.0-litre turbo-four with 48-volt assistance is described as smooth and efficient in everyday use, and the model’s overall refinement is a strong point.

Volvo’s mild-hybrid setup is meant to improve fuel economy and smooth out power delivery, and the XC40’s standard equipment and premium positioning support a well-rounded ownership experience. The included three-year/100,000-kilometre limited warranty is standard coverage, but it may not fully ease concerns about long-term maintenance on the added electrified components.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a premium compact SUV with newer hybrid hardware can be costlier to own if repairs are needed outside warranty.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC40?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Core trim covers the essentials, but Plus and Ultimate add useful equipment such as fog lights, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, and Pilot Assist. If you want the most complete safety and convenience package, the higher trims are the ones to target.
• Powertrain: Canadian B5 models use a 2.0-litre turbo-four with 247 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, plus a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and an eight-speed automatic. The setup is tuned for smoothness and refinement rather than sportiness.
• Safety package: Volvo’s standard safety suite includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, traffic-sign recognition, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and whiplash-protective front seats. Base trims do not get standard adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch portrait touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Google-based built-in apps, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth. The system is modern, but most functions run through the screen.
• Fuel efficiency: NRCan rates the B5 AWD at 9.2 L/100 km combined, with 10.2 city and 7.9 highway. The mild-hybrid system helps, and real-world consumption can be better.

Which 2023 Volvo XC40 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC40 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point and gives you the XC40’s core appeal: distinctive styling, standard all-wheel drive, the Google-based infotainment system, and a strong safety feature set. It makes sense if you want the XC40 experience at the lowest price, but you give up some convenience and parking aids.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds front and side parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system. If you want a better day-to-day ownership experience without jumping to the top trim, this is the one to focus on.
• Ultimate: This trim adds adaptive cruise control and Pilot Assist, along with the most complete equipment list in the lineup. It suits you if you want the most advanced driver-assistance setup and are willing to pay for it.

The base trim lacks standard adaptive cruise control, while Plus and Ultimate bring more of the convenience and safety tech many luxury buyers expect.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo XC40?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 106 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.40% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,341 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC40's resale value?

The current average of $33,341 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,368 CAD.

That drop suggests the XC40 has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you own one, the current market points to softer resale conditions than a year ago. For future sellers, well-equipped trims and clean service history should matter more than ever when it comes time to list.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC40 safe?

The 2023 Volvo XC40 earns Good ratings in most IIHS crash tests, though it was rated Acceptable in the updated side-impact test. It also earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and a four-star rollover rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo equips the XC40 with lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, traffic-sign recognition, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and whiplash-protective front seats as standard. Plus adds front and side parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system, while Ultimate adds adaptive cruise control and Pilot Assist.

The main caveat is that the base trim does not include standard adaptive cruise control, and the updated IIHS side-impact result is a reminder that the XC40 is not flawless in every test.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC40 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.40% compared with last year.
• It brings refreshed styling, mild-hybrid powertrains, and the Android-based infotainment system.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,611 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $33,341 CAD average.
• It is an all-electric XC40 Recharge with standard AWD and no significant changes for the year.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the refreshed gas-powered XC40 with updated tech and a broader used-market selection. If your priority is lower purchase price and you are specifically interested in the electric version, the 2022 is the better value path.
