Summary
With 756 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,307 CAD, 31.0% of 2023 Volkswagen Tiguans for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan stands out as a crossover SUV that feels more upscale in appearance and more enjoyable to drive than many of its primary competitors. It also has a stylish design and great handling, which helps give it a more polished character than many shoppers might expect in this segment.
Practicality is another major part of its appeal. The Tiguan is larger inside than many of its rivals, and it is one of two vehicles in its segment to offer a third-row seat. It also offers plenty of cargo space, making it a strong choice for buyers who want everyday usefulness along with a more refined driving experience.
That said, the Tiguan is not without drawbacks. Its performance is fairly pedestrian, its ergonomic design is poor, and its technology is unintuitive, so buyers who are easily frustrated by tech may find those issues hard to overlook.

The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan proves to be a versatile and well-rounded crossover that offers a comfortable ride, ample space, and a range of modern features. During my recent test drive, the Tiguan demonstrated its ability to cater to both daily commuting and family adventures, making it a compelling choice in the compact SUV segment. As I approached the Tiguan, its sleek and modern design immediately caught my eye. The confident stance, stylish LED lighting, and chrome accents give it a premium feel. The Tiguan strikes a harmonious balance between sportiness and sophistication, making it an attractive option for those seeking an elegant yet adventurous presence on the road.

I love all the cars features. Great value, rides great. The only thing missing is an automatic lift rear trunk, although that is not available on this year and not a dealership issue, however it’s not that big of a deal. I love the feel of the seating and sleekness of the German design.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
It stands out as a crossover SUV that feels more upscale in appearance and more enjoyable to drive than many of its primary competitors. It also has a stylish design and great handling, which helps give it a more polished character than many shoppers might expect in this segment.
The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, the ergonomic design is poor, and the technology is unintuitive. If you want everyday usefulness along with a more refined driving experience, it fits that brief well.
30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which points to a market with some worthwhile opportunities.
Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Tiguan is presented as a refined, practical crossover with strong everyday utility, and the expert review also highlights solid construction and a well-assembled feel. Its powertrain is described as not the smoothest or most powerful in the segment, but the vehicle’s dynamic qualities are otherwise rewarding once you acclimate to its quirks.
Volkswagen also includes a complimentary subscription to Car-Net Remote Access with features such as remote engine starting and Family Guardian safety features, which adds some ownership value. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that its frustrating controls and uneven power delivery may remain annoying even if the vehicle is otherwise well kept.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: In Canada, the Tiguan is offered in Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline R-Line Black, and Highline R-Line trim levels. Standard equipment includes keyless entry with remote start and an 8-way power driver’s seat, while the Highline R-Line adds a sportier look, 20-inch machined-finish wheels, adaptive front lighting, and a light bar across the grille. The base trim leaves you with fewer of the upscale touches and appearance upgrades.
- Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In Canada, 4Motion all-wheel drive is standard, and the drivetrain can feel a bit uneven at times, with delayed downshifts and some turbo lag from a stop.
- Safety package: Front Assist and Side Assist are standard, and Front Assist includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. Side Assist adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. IQ.Drive is optional on base models and standard on other models, and it adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, active blind-spot monitoring, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.
- Infotainment: Lower trims use a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while other Tiguans have an 8-inch touchscreen. R-Line trims get a 10.25-inch digital display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and Car-Net connected services are included on the top trim, but the interface can be unintuitive.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the R-Line trims should average 9.8 L/100 km in combined driving.
Which 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?
The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline R-Line Black, and Highline R-Line.
Here's the short version:
- Trendline: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Tiguan’s core space, standard safety tech, and standard all-wheel drive without paying for the extra appearance and convenience upgrades.
- Comfortline: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful equipment while staying below the R-Line versions, making it a sensible middle ground.
- Comfortline R-Line Black: Choose this if you want a sportier appearance without jumping all the way to the top trim.
- Highline R-Line: This is the one to buy if you want the most upscale feel, the 10.25-inch display, wireless smartphone features, premium audio, and the most complete equipment list.
IQ.Drive is optional on base models and standard on other models, so that safety-package difference is worth checking carefully when you compare listings.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with some room to find a good deal if you shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 769 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.53% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $27,276 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?
The current average of $27,330 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,548 CAD.
That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Tiguan more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, trim, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum alone.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?
The 2023 Tiguan earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, though that rating does not apply for the 2023 calendar year. It also has incomplete NHTSA testing, and NHTSA says the driver’s door unlatched and opened during the side-impact test.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
All Tiguans have standard Front Assist and Side Assist. Front Assist includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. Side Assist adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Volkswagen also includes an Automatic Post Collision Braking System, and IQ.Drive adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, active blind-spot monitoring, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.
The safety tech is a major strength, but the crash-test caveat is worth noting if you are comparing used examples and want the most reassuring safety story possible.
Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.53% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines upscale looks, strong handling, and a roomy cabin with third-row availability.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $25,258 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $27,330 CAD average.
- It was refined rather than reinvented, with a light refresh and new safety technology.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $30,053 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $27,330 CAD average.
- It adds value with upgrades and a more premium look.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, equipment, and market availability, the 2023 is the primary path to consider. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the smarter alternative, while the 2024 makes sense only if you want the newer upgrades and are willing to pay more.
