Is the 2023 Toyota Tundra a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the powerful engine, comfortable interior, smooth ride, stylish appearance, and fuel efficiency. For you, that means the Tundra has broad appeal if you want a full-size pickup that feels modern without giving up everyday comfort.

The main trade-offs are its polarising design and the fact that not all safety features are standard. Even so, the Tundra’s mix of capability and technology makes it a strong fit if you want a contemporary truck with a familiar full-size presence.

With 35.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a decent amount of value-oriented inventory to consider.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tundra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the Tundra as powerful, comfortable, and smooth-riding, and they also point to its fuel efficiency and stylish appearance. The expert notes also emphasise a reliable platform and performance that truck buyers still seek, along with smooth and consistent engine operation.

Toyota’s warranty coverage adds some ownership reassurance, including three years/60,000 kilometres for the vehicle and five years/100,000 kilometres for the powertrain. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that you should still check service history carefully, especially given owner concerns about recalls from previous models.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Tundra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-road, Limited, Limited TRD Off-road, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone. Lower trims are simpler, while Limited and up bring the large 14-inch touchscreen, and TRD Pro adds clearance lamps, a skid plate, and a more rugged appearance.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, plus an available hybrid version with more power. The 10-speed automatic is part of the package, and the truck’s updated suspension helps it feel more composed over rough pavement and terrain.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, with automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, lane-tracing assist, and sway warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available, but not standard across the lineup.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8-inch touchscreen, while Limited and above use a 14-inch multimedia screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the 14-inch system is paired with crisp graphics and fast response times.
• Fuel efficiency: The previous-generation V8 returned 17.7 L/100 km in city driving, 13.6 on the highway, and 15.9 combined with rear-wheel drive, while 4WD models were rated at 18.0 L/100 km city, 14.2 highway, and 16.3 combined.

Which 2023 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Tundra is offered in 10 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-road, Limited, Limited TRD Off-road, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Tundra’s strong core capability and modern engineering. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup and can live without the larger screen and extra convenience features.
• SR5: This is the sensible step up if you want a better balance of equipment and value. It keeps the truck straightforward while giving you a more rounded ownership experience than the base trim.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more style-forward truck with a sportier feel than the work-focused trims. It suits you if appearance and road presence matter as much as utility.
• TRD Off-road: This is the better pick if you want a more trail-ready setup without jumping all the way to the TRD Pro. It adds off-road character while staying below the most specialised version.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it unlocks the 14-inch touchscreen and the more upscale tech experience. If you want the strongest mix of comfort, technology, and everyday usability, start here.
• Limited TRD Off-road: Pick this if you want the Limited’s upgraded cabin and tech with extra off-road flavour. It’s a good fit if you split your time between commuting and rougher roads.
• Platinum: This trim leans into a more premium feel and also gets the 12-speaker audio system. It suits you if you want a more luxurious truck without going all the way to the top.
• 1794 Edition: This is another upscale choice with the 12-speaker audio system and a more distinctive personality. It works well if you want comfort and a more characterful cabin.
• TRD Pro: This is the one to buy if you want the most serious off-road hardware. The lift, Fox shocks, 33-inch tires, locking rear differential, crawl control, and downhill assist control make it the clear adventure-focused choice.
• Capstone: This is the luxury flagship, and it comes standard with the hybrid powertrain. Choose it if you want the most premium Tundra experience and are comfortable paying for it.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available, but they are not standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Tundra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 340 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $50,788 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $50,788 CAD sits slightly below last year's $55,179 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can make it harder for future sellers to command top dollar immediately. If you own one now, strong condition and good equipment should matter more when it comes time to resell. The Tundra’s broad appeal and modern tech should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tundra safe?

The 2023 Toyota Tundra earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS for CrewMax models.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 comes standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and lane departure warning, lane-tracing assist, and sway warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available, but they are not standard across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Toyota keeps the new-generation Tundra largely unchanged for 2023, preserving its modern powertrain and tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $47,212 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $50,788 CAD average.
• It’s an all-new redesign with broad updates and strong durability appeal.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $54,818 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $50,788 CAD average.
• It adds a more distinctive identity with the i-Force Max drivetrain and available open-air driving experience.

The bottom line: If you want the current-generation Tundra with a softer price trend, the 2023 is the balanced choice. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want the newer-year premium and can pay more, the 2024 is worth a look.
