Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 6.5/10. The model scores 7/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model leaves out a leather-wrapped steering wheel and uses a urethane wheel and centre armrest, while higher trims add more premium touches. The LE rides on 17-inch steel wheels, while XLE with a package and higher grades move to 18-inch alloy wheels.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid system with an electric motor/generator, a CVT, and standard all-wheel drive from a rear electric motor. It produces 219 horsepower and is tuned for calm, efficient driving rather than sporty acceleration.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, and a traffic sign reader. In Canada, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard. Limited adds front and rear parking proximity sensors with automatic braking when backing up and a surround-view camera system, while these features are available on XSE.
• Infotainment: Most trims get an 8.0-inch touchscreen, while higher trims upgrade to a 10.5-inch display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system supports over-the-air updates, Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, and remote monitoring and control.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 5.8 L/100 km in the city, 6.3 L/100 km on the highway, and 6.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 5 trim levels: Hybrid LE AWD, Hybrid XLE AWD, Hybrid SE AWD, Hybrid XSE AWD, Hybrid Limited AWD.

Here's the short version:

• Hybrid LE AWD: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core hybrid efficiency, standard all-wheel drive, and the full Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you give up some of the nicer cabin touches and larger-screen tech found higher up.
• Hybrid XLE AWD: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds a more polished feel without jumping all the way to the pricier trims. It’s the trim to target if you want a balanced mix of comfort, equipment, and everyday usability.
• Hybrid SE AWD: This trim sits between the mainstream and more upscale versions, so it’s worth considering if you want a slightly sportier or more distinctive step up without going to the top end.
• Hybrid XSE AWD: This is the trim to look at if you want the more advanced tech and a richer feature set, including the larger touchscreen and the stronger audio setup mentioned in the equipment list.
• Hybrid Limited AWD: This is the most feature-rich version, with the surround-view camera system, parking sensors, automatic braking when backing up, and the digital rearview mirror. It suits you best if you want the most convenience and safety equipment in the range.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard across the lineup, while the Limited gets the most complete parking and camera package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 401 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.07% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $38,783 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $38,783 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,190 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you’re buying now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic on asking price if market conditions stay similar. The current year-round range suggests there is still room for values to move within a fairly tight band, which can help support resale stability.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid safe?

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid earns five-star ratings for overall and side crash protection, and four-star ratings in frontal and rollover crash tests from NHTSA. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it a Top Safety Pick rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, and it includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, and a traffic sign reader. In Canada, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.

The main caveat is that the IIHS moderate overlap frontal and side-impact tests were rated Acceptable rather than Good, so you should keep that in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 stands out for its new infotainment system and the Woodland Edition’s off-road-capable angle.

The bottom line: If you want a used RAV4 Hybrid with strong efficiency, standard all-wheel drive, and a newer infotainment setup, the 2023 is a sensible pick. If you’re especially price-sensitive, it’s still worth comparing nearby model years to see whether you can save more without giving up the features you care about.
