How much does the 2023 RAM 2500 cost?

Prices have softened 12.24% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 450 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2023 RAM 2500 a good car?

Generally — the 2023 RAM 2500 earns 4.2/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its power, comfort, and usefulness for towing and utility work, and many also like the technology and luxury touches. The truck’s spacious, comfortable cabin is a major part of its appeal, especially if you want a heavy-duty pickup that feels more accommodating inside than many rivals.

The trade-offs are that the column shifter feels flimsy and the truck can be difficult to enter and exit. The overview also frames it as a truck that suits buyers who want serious capability without giving up comfort, but that balance comes with a higher price and some daily-use compromises.

With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 RAM 2500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable for power, towing, and utility use, with many shoppers describing it as a solid value for the work it does. That said, some owners raised concerns about reliability, particularly around the transmission, so you should pay close attention to service history and how the truck has been used.

The expert drive notes also describe the truck as robust and capable, with a strong frame and a refined, composed feel on the road. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that heavy-duty use and diesel complexity can make maintenance history especially important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 RAM 2500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Rebel is positioned as a more aggressive, blacked-out truck with a Rebel-specific grille, 20-inch wheels, an aluminium sport hood, and a crew-cab body with a 6-foot, 4-inch cargo bed. Compared with the Power Wagon, it skips the graphics and badging, the 17-inch wheels, and the integrated Warn winch, so you should decide whether you want the Rebel’s look and equipment or the more specialised hardware of the Power Wagon.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 6.4-litre V8 with 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, plus an available 6.7-litre Cummins turbodiesel inline six with 370 hp and 850 lb-ft. The V8 is the better choice if you want maximum towing and payload, while the diesel suits you if you value stronger low-end torque and better fuel economy, even though it is a pricey upgrade.
• Safety package: Ram’s available driver-assistance suite includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking including for trailer brakes, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. The test truck had them all, so you should confirm which systems are fitted on the used example you’re considering.
• Infotainment: The truck uses Ram’s next-generation Uconnect 5 system with a 12-inch touchscreen in portrait orientation, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, navigation, and available 17-speaker Harman Kardon audio. It also offers a 12-inch digital instrumentation panel, blind-spot cameras, and a digital rearview mirror, so check that the screen and camera features work properly.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel test truck showed 12.3 L/100 km after mostly highway driving, 14.6 L/100 km on mountain roads, and 16.0 L/100 km off-road. The 6.4-litre V8 returned 22.8 L/100 km under the same route and conditions, so fuel use varies a lot depending on engine choice and how the truck is driven.

Which 2023 RAM 2500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 RAM 2500 is offered in 7 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Power Wagon, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the work-focused starting point, so it makes sense if you want the 2500’s core capability without paying for the more upscale or specialised trims.
• Big Horn: This is the sensible step up if you want a little more everyday comfort and equipment while staying away from the higher-priced luxury trims.
• Rebel: This is the best-value choice if you want the truck’s off-road character, the aggressive styling, and the available diesel powertrain without going all the way to the more specialised Power Wagon.
• Power Wagon: Choose this if off-road hardware is your priority and you want the most purpose-built trail focus in the lineup.
• Laramie: This is the better fit if you want a more polished cabin and a stronger luxury lean without jumping to the top-end trims.
• Limited Longhorn: Pick this if you want a more upscale, distinctive presentation with a premium feel.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice if you want the most luxurious version of the 2500 lineup.

Safety content notes that Ram offers several advanced driver-assistance systems on the Heavy Duty models, and you should verify exactly which ones are fitted on any used truck you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 RAM 2500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 450 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.24% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $67,931 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 RAM 2500's resale value?

The current average of $67,980 CAD sits slightly below last year's $77,464 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be more realistic on asking price. If you buy at the right number now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

The truck’s strong capability and comfort should help it stay appealing to shoppers who want a heavy-duty pickup with a more refined feel. Still, resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the truck has been maintained, especially if it has been used for towing or off-road driving.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 RAM 2500 safe?

The 2023 RAM 2500 does not have crash-test ratings listed here.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ram offers several advanced driver-assistance systems on the Heavy Duty models, including automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking including for trailer brakes, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. The test truck had them all, which is a strong safety and convenience package for a heavy-duty pickup.

One caveat is that the expert notes say crash-test ratings do not exist for this truck, so you should lean more heavily on the available driver-assistance equipment and the truck’s size and visibility aids when evaluating safety.

Should I buy a 2023 RAM 2500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.24% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings the Rebel’s off-road focus, the available Cummins turbodiesel, and the year’s updated tech and camera features.

The bottom line: If you want the Rebel’s mix of capability, comfort, and updated equipment, the 2023 is the year to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2023’s softened pricing and strong owner satisfaction make it the more compelling starting point for most used buyers.
