Is the 2023 Nissan Rogue a good car?

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, safety features, and fuel economy, and they also like the comfortable ride and modern technology. In use, that lines up well with the Rogue’s role as a compact SUV for shoppers who want comfort and efficiency in a practical package. The main trade-offs are the CVT’s loud, sometimes underpowered feel and the poor voice recognition system, which can take some shine off the experience.

Nissan’s warranty coverage is fairly ordinary for the class, so used buyers should pay close attention to service history and overall condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes S, SV, SL, and Platinum, and the base S FWD is the least expensive version. The SV is also the trim that gets the Midnight Edition package, while the Platinum adds upscale touches such as soft leather seats and more premium cabin materials.
• Powertrain: The Rogue uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a CVT. It is responsive in city driving and tuned for efficiency, but some drivers may notice an unusual engine note, vibration through the accelerator pedal, and limited passing power on the highway.
• Safety package: Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, rear automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Higher trims can add ProPilot Assist with Navi-link, plus surround-view camera, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, and sonar.
• Infotainment: The Rogue uses an 8-inch or available 9-inch touchscreen. The larger screen can be paired with wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, NissanConnect services, a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, a wireless charging pad, and a Bose premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the test vehicle should have returned 7.7 L/100 km in combined driving, and the evaluation loop averaged 8.1 L/100 km.

Which 2023 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2023 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Rogue’s core space, safety, and efficiency without paying for extras. It is the least expensive way into the lineup, but you give up the richer cabin and convenience features found higher up.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday appeal while staying below the luxury-leaning upper trims. It is also the trim that can get the Midnight Edition package, which gives the Rogue a darker exterior look.
• SL: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale feel and more available technology and driver-assistance content. It suits you if you want a more polished Rogue without going all the way to the top.
• Platinum: This is the most premium Rogue, with the most upscale cabin treatment and the richest feature set. It is the right choice if you want the most comfort and the most polished presentation.

Higher trim levels can add ProPilot Assist with Navi-link, so if that system matters to you, make sure you shop accordingly.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options and enough deal activity to reward patience.

• Deal availability: 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,703 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.53% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,562 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $26,562 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,077 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Rogue has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer market than owners saw a year ago. If you buy now at a lower entry price, you may have less depreciation pressure than someone who bought when prices were higher. Even so, resale strength will depend on trim, condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.31/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2023 Nissan Rogue earns a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA. It gets four-star ratings for the driver and front passenger in a frontal-impact collision.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Safety Shield 360 is standard, and it brings forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, rear automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Higher trims can add ProPilot Assist with Navi-link, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assistance, along with other available aids such as surround-view camera, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, and sonar.

One caveat to keep in mind is that updated IIHS testing produced Marginal and Acceptable results in the small overlap frontal-impact and side-impact tests, respectively.

Should I buy a 2023 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.31/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds the Midnight Edition package on the SV trim and keeps the Rogue visually fresh.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,449 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $26,562 CAD average.
• It offers a broader trim spread and a strong efficiency focus.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $27,431 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $26,562 CAD average.
• It adds Google built-in apps and a more modern tech experience.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and current-year appeal, the 2023 is the sensible default. If your priority is lower purchase cost, the 2022 is the price-sensitive path. If you care most about newer tech, the 2024 is the better upgrade.
