How much does the 2023 Nissan Altima cost?

There are 82 listings available, which suggests a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Nissan Altima a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Nissan Altima earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its impressive fuel economy, responsive driving experience, and quality audio system. It also stands out as a practical value with standard all-wheel drive and straightforward technology, which suits you well if you want a traditional family sedan rather than an SUV.

The trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and poor visibility, and the interior materials feel cheap. Even so, it remains a sensible, well-equipped choice for buyers who prioritise comfort and everyday usability.

With 28.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is a meaningful amount of market value to be found.

Is the 2023 Nissan Altima reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners also describe it as cost-effective and dependable, with strong fuel economy and a reputation that supports trouble-free everyday use. The Altima’s CVT is described as a good one, and Nissan has been building these transmissions for decades, which adds to the sense that the car is built for long-term ownership. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-used example may show the effects of its mainstream materials and higher-mileage wear more quickly than a more upscale rival.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Nissan Altima?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S, SR, SR Premium, and Platinum trims build on one another, with higher trims adding more visual presence and equipment. The base trim is the most straightforward choice, while the higher trims bring larger 19-inch wheel designs and more premium features.
• Powertrain: Every Canadian Altima uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT and standard AWD. Output is adequate rather than exciting, and the CVT is tuned to feel more like a traditional automatic.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every version and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver monitoring system, rear-seat reminder, Easy Fill Tire Alert, rear automatic braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. ProPilot Assist is included on SR Premium and Platinum, and adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and SiriusXM with 360L. SR Premium and Platinum get a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, navigation, and wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: Official ratings are 9.1 L/100 km city, 6.5 highway, and 7.9 combined for the base trim, or 9.3 city, 6.7 highway, and 8.1 combined for SR, SR Premium, and Platinum. Our tester averaged 8.6 L/100 km.

Which 2023 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2023 Nissan Altima is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SR, SR Premium, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Altima’s standard AWD, core safety tech, and straightforward infotainment without paying for extras. It makes the most sense if you care more about practicality than premium features.
• SR: This trim adds a sportier look and feel, plus paddle shifters for a bit more driver engagement. It is the best-value pick if you want a little more personality without moving too far up the price ladder.
• SR Premium: This is the sweet spot if you want the biggest jump in everyday convenience and technology. You get the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, Bose audio, and ProPilot Assist.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped Altima, including the larger touchscreen, Bose audio, ProPilot Assist, and the surround-view camera system.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard across the range, while ProPilot Assist is reserved for SR Premium and Platinum.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Nissan Altima?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right example.

• Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 82 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.95% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,210 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $23,226 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,308 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you buy now, you are entering at a lower baseline than last year, which can help limit depreciation pressure if the market stays soft. Strong demand for practical, well-equipped sedans should still support values, especially for clean examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2023 Altima earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a five-star rollover resistance rating, though front passenger frontal impact safety is rated four stars. It also earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, but receives a Poor rating in the updated side-impact test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver monitoring system, rear-seat reminder, Easy Fill Tire Alert, rear automatic braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. ProPilot Assist is standard only on SR Premium and Platinum, where it adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist.

The main caveat is the Poor IIHS side-impact result, which is worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2023 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines standard AWD, strong safety tech, and easy-to-use technology in a shrinking sedan segment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,566 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $23,226 CAD average.
• It offers standard AWD and a simpler three-trim lineup.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $26,606 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $23,226 CAD average.
• It adds subtle updates and an upgraded touchscreen on higher trims.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, equipment, and market availability, the 2023 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want the newer model-year update and are willing to pay more, the 2024 is the alternative to compare.
