Is the 2023 Kia Carnival a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

The 2023 Kia Carnival is a practical family vehicle that feels more stylish and less obvious than a typical minivan. It still gives you the core minivan advantages that matter most, including sliding doors and a roomy, family-friendly layout, while also leaning on strong technology and value to broaden its appeal.

The main trade-offs are that all-wheel drive is not available and it can be noisy on the highway.

With 25.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a reasonable chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2023 Kia Carnival reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Carnival’s appeal is built around practicality, technology, and family use, and the expert assessment backs that up with a strong overall score. Its powertrain is described as smooth and capable, and the transmission is praised for operating flawlessly in normal use.

The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a well-equipped family hauler can still bring higher running-cost exposure if you rack up lots of kilometres.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Carnival?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, LX+, EX, EX+, and SX trims build up equipment step by step, with the base trim missing some of the more upscale presentation and convenience features found higher up.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with an eight-speed automatic, 290 horsepower, and 262 lb-ft of torque. It is front-wheel drive only, and the lack of a hybrid option is a key limitation if fuel economy matters to you.
• Safety package: The Carnival includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist as standard. Blind-spot monitoring starts at EX, while adaptive cruise control, Safe Exit Assist, and Junction Turning Detection also arrive as you move up the range. EX+ and SX add a surround-view camera and a camera-based Blind-Spot View Monitor.
• Infotainment: The 12.3-inch touchscreen system includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Kia Connect connected services. The dual 12.3-inch screens are standard on EX+ and SX.
• Fuel efficiency: It is rated at 10.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 11.1 litres per 100 kilometres on the evaluation loop.

Which 2023 Kia Carnival trim should I buy?

The 2023 Kia Carnival is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, LX+, EX, EX+, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the Carnival’s core space and sliding-door practicality at the lowest price, but you give up some of the nicer tech and convenience upgrades found higher up.
• LX+: This trim adds a bit more equipment while staying close to the value-focused end of the range, making it a sensible step up if you want a little more comfort without chasing luxury features.
• EX: This is the first trim where blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, Safe Exit Assist, and Junction Turning Detection appear, so it is the first one that feels meaningfully better equipped for everyday family use.
• EX+: This is the best-value trim if you want the Carnival’s standout tech, because it adds the dual 12.3-inch screens, surround-view camera, and Blind-Spot View Monitor.
• SX: This is the most upscale choice, with the richest presentation and the most complete equipment list, including the dual power sunroofs and the most premium-feeling interior touches.

The safety package builds gradually, so if those driver-assistance features matter to you, pay close attention to where each one starts.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Kia Carnival?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 196 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,107 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Kia Carnival's resale value?

The current average of $33,826 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,738 CAD.

That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Carnival easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you own one, strong condition and desirable equipment should matter more than hoping for appreciation. A lower entry price today can help support demand later if the vehicle remains well kept and competitively equipped.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Kia Carnival safe?

The 2023 Carnival earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Kia equips the Carnival with forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, Safe Exit Assist, Junction Turning Detection, rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, and a camera-based Blind-Spot View Monitor depending on trim.

A key caveat is that the standard headlights on all but the top trim get a Poor rating for their performance.

Should I buy a 2023 Kia Carnival or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines stylish design with strong value and a practical family layout.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $30,135 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $33,826 CAD average.
• It blends SUV-like styling with upscale passenger seating.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $37,469 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $33,826 CAD average.
• It adds a strong driving experience and keeps the Carnival’s distinctive look.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around choice if you want the strongest mix of value, style, and equipment. If price is your top priority, the 2022 is the better entry point, while the 2024 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative.
