Is the 2023 Kia Carnival a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Kia Carnival earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

It stands out by making the minivan formula feel more stylish and less obvious, while still giving you the sliding doors and practical family layout that matter most. It also brings impressive technology and excellent value for money, which helps it compete on more than just space and convenience.

The trade-offs are clear: all-wheel drive is not available, there is no hybrid option, and it can be noisy on the highway.

With 29.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2023 Kia Carnival reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Carnival’s practical layout, strong value focus, and well-rounded feature set support confidence for everyday family use. Its powertrain is described as smooth and capable, and the transmission operates flawlessly in normal driving.

Kia also includes a complimentary three-year subscription to Kia Connect connected services, which adds convenience features such as remote engine starting and Find My Car. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a well-used example may show wear from heavy family duty, especially if it has spent a lot of time on the highway or carrying full loads.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Carnival?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Carnival’s style and cabin presentation improve as you move up the range, with the EX+ and SX adding dual instrumentation and infotainment screens under one piece of glass. The SX also brings dual power sunroofs and richer interior trim, while the base trim misses some of the more upscale visual and convenience touches.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with an eight-speed automatic, plus Eco, Normal, Smart, and Sport driving modes. It is front-wheel drive only, and the model is not offered with a hybrid or all-wheel-drive option.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, Safe Exit Assist, and a rear-seat reminder system. Blind-spot monitoring starts at EX, Junction Turning Detection starts at EX, and the surround-view camera plus Blind-Spot View Monitor are reserved for EX+ and SX.
• Infotainment: The 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Kia Connect connected services. The dual 12.3-inch screens are standard on EX+ and SX, and the system also adds remote engine starting and a Find My Car function.
• Fuel efficiency: The Carnival is rated at 10.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 11.1 litres per 100 kilometres on the evaluation loop.

Which 2023 Kia Carnival trim should I buy?

The 2023 Kia Carnival is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, LX+, EX, EX+, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Carnival’s core space and style at the lowest price, but you give up some of the more upscale cabin and tech features found higher up.
• LX+: This trim adds a bit more equipment while staying near the bottom of the range, making it a sensible step up if you want more comfort without chasing the highest-priced versions.
• EX: This is the first trim where key safety upgrades arrive, including blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, Safe Exit Assist, and Junction Turning Detection, so it is the value-minded choice for many shoppers.
• EX+: This is the best-value trim if you want the richer tech experience, because it adds the dual 12.3-inch screens, surround-view camera, and Blind-Spot View Monitor.
• SX: This is the most upscale version, with the most premium presentation, dual power sunroofs, and the most complete feature set for buyers who want the Carnival to feel as luxurious as possible.

Starting with EX trim, the Carnival adds important safety equipment, and EX+ and SX bring the most advanced camera-based driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Kia Carnival?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 197 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.98% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,105 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Kia Carnival's resale value?

The current average of $33,413 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,842 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Carnival more attractive to used buyers today. For future sellers, it also means you should expect resale values to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim level rather than on broad market momentum alone. Well-equipped examples with desirable safety and tech features should hold buyer interest better than stripped-down versions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Kia Carnival safe?

The 2023 Carnival earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Kia equips the Carnival with a stair-step collection of driver assistance and collision avoidance systems, adding features as you go from LX to EX to SX. Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, rear parking sensors, and a rear-seat reminder system that can detect movement after you lock the vehicle. Blind-spot monitoring comes in at EX, while adaptive cruise control and Safe Exit Assist are also standard from EX. Starting with EX, you also get Junction Turning Detection.

The main caveat is that the standard headlights on all but the top trim get a Poor rating for their performance.

Should I buy a 2023 Kia Carnival or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines stylish minivan packaging with impressive technology and strong value.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $30,810 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $33,413 CAD average.
• It blends crossover SUV styling with VIP-style passenger seating.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $37,316 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $33,413 CAD average.
• It offers a strong driving experience and an affordable starting price.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around pick if you want the Carnival’s style, tech, and value at a softened market price. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is worth a look; if you want to spend more for a newer carryover, the 2024 remains appealing.
