CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 207 currently listed for sale near Barrie, ON and an average price of $20,495 CAD, 28.5% of 2023 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Hyundai Elantra 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra stands out because it offers a wide range of personalities in one compact sedan. According to the test-drive summary, it can serve as basic transportation, a 4.7 L/100 km hybrid loaded with features, or one of the best sports sedans you can buy on a budget. That breadth is a major part of its appeal, especially for buyers who want a car that can be efficient, practical, and still entertaining to drive.
It is also described as roomy, safe, efficient, and technologically advanced, which gives it a strong all-round case in a market where new-car prices are high. The listed strengths reinforce that impression: multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and excellent value for money. On the downside, its design may be polarising, so the Elantra’s styling will not suit everyone.
Owner feedback broadly matches that picture, with praise for fuel economy, safety features, value, and the available tech. Some owners, however, have raised concerns about interior quality and noise, saying the materials feel cheap and that rattling noises can occur.

This car provides exceptional value and incredible features. I can’t think of anything it is missing. Great gas mileage. I would compare it to a Honda Accord with a lower price and better gas mileage.

Great car… no complaints; mileage/handling/tech features etc superb keeping in mind bang for buck cost vs. features. Have owned several Elantra’s over many years.

Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.88/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its fuel economy, safety features, value for the price, and available tech. The overview also points to a roomy, efficient, and technologically advanced sedan that can work as basic transportation or as a more feature-rich hybrid. On the trade-off side, the expert notes that the styling may be polarising, and owners mention interior materials that can feel cheap along with occasional rattling noises.
For you, that means the Elantra makes the most sense if you want a practical compact sedan with broad appeal across efficiency, features, and driving character. 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which is a healthy sign of market availability.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights a car that many people find dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for fuel economy, safety features, and value. That kind of satisfaction usually points to a model you can count on for routine commuting and ownership over the long term.
The expert drive notes that the Elantra’s driving dynamics are calm, cool, and collected, and that its behaviour is consistent and predictable. Hyundai also backs the car with a 5-year, 100,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper warranty, which adds peace of mind for used buyers who want to reduce ownership risk.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Elantra Essential is the value play, while the Preferred and Luxury trims add a more upscale feel and more available tech. The Luxury trim especially stands out for its richer cabin presentation, while the N Line Ultimate and Elantra N are for buyers who want a sportier character.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT/IVT and front-wheel drive. If you want a dual-clutch transmission and an independent multi-link rear suspension, look at the N Line Ultimate, Elantra Hybrid, or Elantra N.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, a full complement of airbags, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, Highway Driving Assist, safe exit warning, cyclist detection, and intersection turning assist.
- Infotainment: The available 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment setup is a major upgrade. It includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, connected services, dynamic voice recognition, navigation, and a wireless charging pad, but CarPlay and Android Auto require a USB connection rather than wireless use.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 4.7 L/100 km in combined driving. The expert test vehicle averaged 7.1 L/100 km during evaluation, against an official NRCan rating of 6.7 L/100 km.
Which 2023 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 6 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Hybrid, N Line Ultimate, and N.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Elantra lineup and are mainly focused on value and core practicality.
- Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and tech without pushing you into the pricier upper end of the range.
- Luxury: This is the sweet spot if you want the most upscale everyday experience, with the richer cabin feel and the expanded 10.25-inch display setup.
- Hybrid: Choose this if fuel efficiency is your top priority and you want the 4.7 L/100 km combined figure along with a well-equipped package.
- N Line Ultimate: Pick this if you want a sportier driving character, the dual-clutch transmission, and the multi-link rear suspension.
- N: This is the enthusiast choice if you want the most performance-focused version and the only one here with a manual transmission.
The safety package is especially generous, and the higher trims add useful driver-assistance features that make daily driving easier.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 660 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.09% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $20,887 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $20,896 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,042 CAD.
That softer pricing can be good news if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. A lower current average can help support demand from value-focused shoppers, especially when the car is still seen as well equipped and efficient.
If the Elantra continues to be viewed as a strong value proposition, that should help cushion resale performance. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2023 Elantra earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in all crash-test categories except frontal crash protection, where it received four-star ratings.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment is extensive, including automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, a full complement of airbags, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, Highway Driving Assist, safe exit warning, cyclist detection, and intersection turning assist.
The main caveat is that the expert test notes the driving aids can struggle when road markings are obscured, so you should still treat them as assistance rather than a substitute for attention.
Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It offers a broad mix of efficiency, tech, and value, with a standout cost-effectiveness score.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $19,073 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $20,896 CAD average.
- It is a bargain-focused compact sedan with strong standard safety and excellent fuel economy.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $22,892 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $20,896 CAD average.
- It adds more style and standard equipment while keeping the Elantra’s broad appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and market availability, the 2023 is the strongest all-round pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want the newer refresh and can spend more, the 2024 is worth a look.
