Is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Honda Ridgeline earns 4.38/5 from owners and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, smooth ride, and versatility, along with useful storage space and modern safety features. The Ridgeline also fits buyers who want a truck for modest tasks without the usual pickup compromises, and its practical, daily-driver character comes through clearly in the overview. The main trade-offs are outdated technology and an infotainment system that trails competitors, plus towing and off-road ability that do not match some rivals.

With 30.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is enough market activity to support selective shopping.

Is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline reliable?

Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience centred on comfort, versatility, and useful features you can count on day to day. The expert assessment also reinforces that this is a truck built for everyday use rather than constant drama, with a refined driving character and a practical layout that should suit long-term ownership well.

If you want a used truck that should be easy to live with over time, the main risk is more about age-related technology than mechanical complexity.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Ridgeline?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Sport is the base model in Canada, while EX-L, Touring, and Black Edition add more equipment and a more upscale feel. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about convenience and premium features.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 3.5-litre V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission and torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. It is smooth and refined on pavement, but you should not expect serious off-road hardware or heavy-duty towing strength.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard in Canada.
• Infotainment: The Ridgeline uses an 8-inch touchscreen, with Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad standard. SiriusXM comes with EX-L, while Touring and Black Edition add navigation, premium audio, and cargo bed speakers.
• Fuel efficiency: The Ridgeline averaged 10.4 L/100 km on a road trip, and the official ratings are 11.5 L/100 km combined and 9.9 L/100 km on the highway.

Which 2023 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value play if you want the Ridgeline’s core strengths without stretching for extras. You still get the V6, torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, Honda Sensing, and the practical everyday usability that defines the truck.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more premium feel while staying below the top trims. It also brings SiriusXM, making it a sensible step up if you want more comfort and convenience.
• Touring: Choose this if you want the richer tech and convenience mix, including navigation, premium audio, and cargo bed speakers. It suits you best if you plan to spend lots of time in the truck and want a more fully equipped cabin.
• Black Edition: This is the most upscale version, with the same core capability but a more distinctive appearance and the most premium presentation. It makes sense if you want the top trim and do not mind paying for style and equipment.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, so you do not need to move up trims for the core safety suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Ridgeline?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 111 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.11% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $43,689 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?

The current average of $43,689 CAD sits slightly below last year's $49,148 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Ridgeline easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you purchase at the current average or below, you are starting from a more favourable entry point than buyers had a year ago. Strong owner satisfaction should help support demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline safe?

The 2023 Ridgeline earns mostly favourable crash-test and safety ratings from IIHS, and it gets top marks in all NHTSA crash tests plus a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing comes standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard in Canada.

The main caveat is that the driver-assistance tech is older and not as smooth or refined as newer Honda systems, and the lane-departure warning can feel intrusive at times.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It is an outlier midsize truck that prioritizes practicality and everyday usability.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,045 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $43,689 CAD average.
• It carries over unchanged and focuses on comfort, refinement, and car-like road manners.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $47,687 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $43,689 CAD average.
• It adds a TrailSport trim and updated tech for a more modern feel.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, practicality, and proven owner satisfaction, the 2023 is the smart default. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the value alternative; if you want newer features and can spend more, the 2024 is the upgrade path.
