Which 2023 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already includes Honda Sensing, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster. Choose it if you want the lowest entry price and are comfortable with the simpler equipment list.
• Sport: This trim adds a more distinctive look and useful comfort upgrades, including a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, dual-zone climate control, a power moonroof, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, and a six-speaker audio system. It suits you if you want a nicer-feeling cabin without moving all the way to the top trim.
• EX-L: This is the most complete version, with perforated leather seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-inch infotainment display, wireless charging, an eight-speaker audio system, Wi-Fi capability, SiriusXM, HD Radio, and parking sensors. Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right example.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 293 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.27% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,864 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $27,864 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,374 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also suggests future sellers may need to be realistic when they list the vehicle. If you buy at the current average, there is less room for appreciation, so resale value will depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment level than on market momentum.

The good news is that the HR-V’s broad appeal, strong feature content, and solid owner satisfaction should help keep demand steady. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment are likely to remain easier to move than stripped or poorly maintained ones.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2023 Honda HR-V receives a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim, and it includes adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot information, and rear cross-traffic alert. EX-L also adds front and rear parking sensors.

That standard safety coverage is a major strength, especially because even the base trim gets the full suite. The main caveat is that the HR-V’s safety advantage is strongest in equipment breadth rather than in any standout crash-test detail beyond the IIHS recognition.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Honda’s redesign gives you a more modern cabin, a stronger feature set, and standard Honda Sensing across the range.

The bottom line: The 2023 HR-V makes the most sense if you want the redesigned model with better standard equipment and a more polished feel. If you are price-sensitive, you may still want to compare listings carefully and focus on well-priced examples, since the market is offering some leverage right now.
