Is the 2023 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — the 2023 GMC Terrain earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. It stands out as a compact SUV that leans into comfort, a roomy cabin and a more premium feel than many rivals, while its distinctive, more angular design gives it a tougher personality than the Chevrolet Equinox. Is the 2023 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Terrain’s appeal comes from its comfortable ride, well-equipped cabin and straightforward technology, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its standard safety equipment also adds confidence for daily use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some interior materials can feel cheap, so condition and maintenance history matter.

This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without waiting forever.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

If you find a listing below $27,153 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $27,153 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,608 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Terrain has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer market than they would have a year ago. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell. The Terrain’s comfort-focused appeal and premium-leaning character should help it stay relevant with shoppers who want a compact SUV that feels a bit more upscale.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $24,571 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $27,153 CAD average.
• It adds an AT4 trim with a more rugged look.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the stronger value balance between price, satisfaction and current market availability. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2022 is the better secondary path, especially if its lower average price matters more than the newer model year.
