How much does the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.3/5 user-rated truck with an expert score of 7.8/10. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the stylish design, advanced technology, and comfortable ride, and many also like the variety of options and the improved interior. The Sierra 1500’s broad feature spread and upscale cabin space fit especially well if you want a full-size pickup that leans premium rather than purely utilitarian.

The trade-offs are that it can feel like too much technology for a truck, and cabin quality still trails the competition. In practical terms, that matters most if you want a simpler work-focused pickup or spend a lot of time in tight city parking.

With 35.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market activity to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as stylish, comfortable, and advanced, while also appreciating the improved interior and broad range of options. The review summary also points to concerns about engine problems for long-term ownership, so you should pay close attention to service history and maintenance records when shopping used.

The Duramax diesel is described as lively and well matched to the 10-speed automatic, which supports confidence in everyday drivability. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a truck with incomplete maintenance history or unresolved powertrain concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 GMC Sierra 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Pro keeps the simpler carryover infotainment layout and adds LED headlamps, remote keyless entry, cloth seats, daytime running lamps, and Bluetooth connectivity, but it misses some basics such as a tilt and telescoping steering column. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, while the Denali Ultimate brings nearly every feature optional on other trims.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, a 3.0-litre Duramax turbocharged inline-six diesel, a 5.3-litre V8, or a 6.2-litre V8. The diesel is the lively standout, while the turbo-four is the base engine and the V8s bring more output.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and GM’s Teen Driver system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, GM’s Safety Alert seat, and Super Cruise.
• Infotainment: The base Pro uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other trims get a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google-connected apps.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax turbo diesel with RWD returns 10.1 L/100 km city, 8.1 highway, and 9.2 combined. With 4WD, it drops to 10.7 L/100 km city, 8.7 highway, and 9.8 combined. The gas turbo-four returns 12.7 L/100 km city, 11.2 highway, and 12.0 combined.

Which 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the simplest choice if you want the most straightforward setup, including the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED headlamps, and cloth seats. It makes the most sense if you value a more traditional truck cabin over extra tech.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a larger touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, extra USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Elevation: This trim keeps much of the SLE equipment while opening the door to more options and packages, so it suits you if you want a more personalised build.
• SLT: This is the comfort-focused step up, adding leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and memory settings for the driver’s seat.
• AT4: This is the off-road-oriented choice, with standard 4WD, skid plates, a lifted suspension, a two-speed transfer case, and an upgraded air filter.
• AT4X: This is the more serious trail-focused trim, with steel bumpers, an integrated front winch, 33-inch mud-terrain tires, additional skid plates, upgraded Multimatic dampers, and electronically locking front and rear differentials.
• Denali: This is the luxury step, adding unique styling elements, a Bose premium audio system, ventilated front seats, wireless device charging, and a camera view of the truck bed.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the top-end pick if you want the most equipment, including full-grain leather, massaging front seats, 22-inch wheels, a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, and the integrated Kicker sound system in the Multi-Pro tailgate.

The safety package expands as you move up the range, and the Denali Ultimate gets every available driver-assistance feature.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,435 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.51% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,320 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $49,320 CAD sits slightly below last year's $55,733 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more truck for the money today, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if prices keep easing. If you buy at the right number now, you may reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. Strong demand for well-equipped trims can still support resale, especially when the truck is in good condition and properly maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The GMC Sierra 1500 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and GM’s Teen Driver system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, GM’s Safety Alert seat, and Super Cruise driver assist.

The Denali Ultimate gets every available driver-assistance feature, so safety equipment is strongest at the top of the range. If you want the most complete safety package, that trim is the one to target.

Should I buy a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines a broad trim range with the new Denali Ultimate and strong safety equipment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $46,293 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $49,320 CAD average.
• It brings a major makeover with bolder styling, richer cabin materials, and added utility.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $54,646 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $49,320 CAD average.
• It broadens flexibility with multiple powertrains and easier-to-use technology.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, equipment, and current-market availability, the 2023 is the primary target. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 is the value path; if you want to spend more for a newer alternative, the 2024 is the next step up.
