What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford F-150?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans regular, Super Cab, and SuperCrew body styles, with trims ranging from the work-focused XL to the Raptor. Base versions are more utilitarian, while higher trims add more comfort, technology, and appearance upgrades.
• Powertrain: You can find multiple engines, including the twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 and the supercharged 5.2-litre V8 in the Raptor R. Efficiency varies, and the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 is called out for poor fuel economy.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 adds automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and automatic reverse braking. The Assist portion adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centring assist, evasive steering assist, intersection assist for left turns, and speed-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: Sync 4 includes a 12-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, and FordPass Connect with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The test truck was expected to return 12.1 L/100 km in combined driving and averaged 13.8 L/100 km on the evaluation loop.

Which 2023 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford F-150 is offered in 8 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, Tremor, and Raptor.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the workhorse choice if you want the lowest entry point and the most basic F-150 experience. It makes the most sense if you care more about capability than comfort or tech.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the features most buyers actually want, including Sync 4 with a 12-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and over-the-air updates.
• Lariat: Step up to this trim if you want more comfort and access to upgrades such as adaptive damping suspension, which can improve ride quality.
• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a more upscale, premium-feeling truck with a stronger luxury focus.
• Platinum: This is for buyers who want a high-end F-150 with a more polished feature set and are willing to pay for it.
• Limited: This is the top luxury-oriented choice if you want the most premium version of the standard lineup.
• Tremor: Pick this if you want a more off-road-focused setup without going all the way to the Raptor.
• Raptor: This is the performance flagship, and the Raptor R pushes that idea even further with its supercharged V8 and extreme hardware.

Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 is the key safety package to look for, and it brings a broad set of driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford F-150?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,986 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.03% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $50,643 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $50,643 CAD sits slightly below last year's $55,669 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can put some pressure on future resale values if supply stays healthy. For a seller, it means you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially if your truck is not especially well equipped or has higher mileage. On the other hand, well-kept F-150s with desirable equipment should still attract attention because the nameplate remains in strong demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford F-150 safe?

The F-150 SuperCrew earns high marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), coupled with a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 is the main driver-assistance suite, and it includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and automatic reverse braking. The Assist portion adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centring assist, evasive steering assist, intersection assist for left turns, and speed-sign recognition.

The system is broadly useful, but the lane-centring assist can be a bit aggressive in tighter situations, and the truck may slow more than you expect on some curves. The surround-view camera and parking sensors are especially helpful in daily use.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds the Raptor R and XLT Heritage Edition, broadening the lineup with both extreme performance and distinctive styling.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $55,903 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $50,643 CAD average.
• It adds a multi-functional tailgate and updated BlueCruise.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the better value if you want a strong mix of capability, tech, and lower pricing. If you want the newer updates and are willing to pay more, the 2024 is the better pick.
