Yes — the 2022 Volvo XC90 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, impressive safety features, and luxurious family-SUV character. On the trade-off side, the third row is cramped and the touchscreen response is sluggish. Volvo includes a first scheduled maintenance visit that is on the house, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that premium features and complex technology can be costly if they need attention outside warranty coverage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Momentum is the most affordable entry point, while R-Design and Inscription add more upscale touches such as 20-inch wheels, and the Inscription trim brings the most luxury-oriented presentation.
• Powertrain: You can choose from T5, T6, and Recharge powertrains. The T5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder, the T6 adds supercharging, and the Recharge plug-in hybrid combines gasoline and electric power for the strongest output and the best efficiency.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist combines lane-centering, set-speed and following-distance support, and other driver aids for relaxed highway driving. Standard equipment also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking assist front and rear, lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, oncoming lane mitigation, and road-sign recognition. Some advanced convenience and visibility features are tied to higher equipment levels.
• Infotainment: The XC90 uses a nine-inch portrait touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, standard Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capability. The system can feel slow to respond, so test it carefully before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The T5 is rated at 11.5 L/100 km city, 8.4 highway, and 10.1 combined. The T6 is rated at 12.4 L/100 km city, 8.9 highway, and 10.8 combined. The Recharge gets 8.8 L/100 km combined in gas-hybrid mode and as low as 3.4 Le/100 km in extended-range form.

Which 2022 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC90 is offered in 7 trim levels: T5 AWD Momentum, T6 AWD Momentum, T6 AWD Momentum with six seats, T6 AWD R-Design, T6 AWD Inscription, T6 AWD Inscription with six seats, and Recharge Inscription Expression PHEV.

Here's the short version:

• T5 AWD Momentum: This is the entry point and the best-value choice if you want the XC90 experience at the lowest starting price. It gives you the core luxury-SUV formula without stepping into the pricier trims.
• T6 AWD Momentum: Choose this if you want more power than the T5 and still want to stay relatively close to the base trim’s value. It’s the sensible upgrade for buyers who want stronger performance without chasing appearance or luxury extras.
• T6 AWD Momentum with six seats: Pick this if you need easier access to the third row and prefer a six-seat layout over maximum passenger count.
• T6 AWD R-Design: This trim suits you if you want a sportier look and feel, plus the added equipment that comes with the R-Design treatment.
• T6 AWD Inscription: This is the more upscale choice if you want the most premium gas-powered XC90 experience, with the richest cabin presentation.
• T6 AWD Inscription with six seats: Choose this if you want the most luxurious gas model and also prefer the six-seat configuration.
• Recharge Inscription Expression PHEV: This is the one to buy if efficiency and electrified driving matter most. It’s the standout choice for shoppers who want the plug-in hybrid powertrain and the strongest fuel-economy story.

Safety content also highlights the XC90’s strong standard driver-assistance suite, so even the lower trims bring a lot of protection to the table.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 123 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.39% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,150 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $40,150 CAD sits slightly below last year's $48,605 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more competition if pricing stays soft. If you buy at today’s average or below, you may have less room for appreciation later unless demand strengthens. The XC90’s premium image and strong safety reputation should help support interest over time, especially among family buyers looking for a refined three-row SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2022 Volvo XC90 earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

The safety package is a major strength across the lineup, though some convenience-oriented features are reserved for higher trims or packages.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

Choose the 2022 if:

• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It pairs strong safety with an available plug-in hybrid and a refined cabin.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $34,606 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,150 CAD average.
• It offers modest updates and the same safety-focused XC90 formula.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $49,465 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,150 CAD average.
