Is the 2022 Nissan Sentra a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Nissan Sentra earns 5/5 from users and 7.7/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It is a well-rounded compact sedan that aims to be competent and affordable rather than flashy, and it benefits from being part of a newer generation after a significant redesign. That makes it a sensible fit if you want an uncomplicated small car that covers the basics well. The market also shows 28.9% of listings as good or great deals, which points to solid value opportunities.

Is the 2022 Nissan Sentra reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Sentra is described as a current-generation model that is broadly competent, with few, if any, shortcomings. Its 2.0-litre four-cylinder powertrain is presented as consistent rather than exciting, but it delivers solid low-end acceleration and dependable highway performance. The five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty also adds peace of mind for used buyers.

For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about major flaws and more about whether the car’s modest performance and feature set will meet your expectations over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Sentra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim includes 16-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, halogen headlights, a 7-inch touchscreen, and cloth upholstery, while the SV adds alloy wheels, a larger screen, premium cloth, and more convenience features. The SR brings 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, sport cloth seats, and more aggressive exterior details.
• Powertrain: Every model uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. In Canada, a six-speed manual is standard and a CVT is available, with the manual also offered on the SR.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, driver drowsiness monitoring, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and a surround-view parking monitor were fitted to the test vehicle.
• Infotainment: The base model gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, and Bluetooth. SV and SR trims upgrade to an 8-inch screen, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada-rated fuel consumption is 9.2 L/100 km city, 6.2 highway, and 7.9 combined with the manual, or 8.0 city, 6.0 highway, and 7.1 combined with the CVT. SR figures are slightly higher.

Which 2022 Nissan Sentra trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Sentra is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, and SR.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the core Sentra experience with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the full standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• SV: This is the best-value trim because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, alloy wheels, premium cloth, dual-zone automatic climate control, intelligent cruise control, and extra convenience features without jumping to the SR’s styling focus.
• SR: Choose this if you want the sportier look, with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, remote start, unique exterior trim, and sport cloth seats with orange stitching.

The safety package is strong across the line, with standard driver-assistance features on every trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Sentra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 287 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.29% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $18,690 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Sentra's resale value?

The current average of $18,690 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,309 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Sentra is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly, which can make it easier to purchase now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For future sellers, the current trend means you may need to price competitively to stand out. On the other hand, a well-kept example with the right equipment should still appeal to shoppers looking for an affordable compact sedan.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Sentra safe?

The Sentra earns a best overall score of five out of five stars in testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Sentra its highest rating of "Good" across all of its crash testing.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, driver drowsiness monitoring, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The test vehicle also had a surround-view parking monitor and adaptive cruise control. The IIHS headlight caveat is worth noting, even though the Sentra still earned a Top Safety Pick award.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Sentra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It benefits from the newer-generation redesign and a strong safety score.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,253 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,690 CAD average.
• It blends style, efficiency, technology, and performance into a smart, well-rounded package.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the better pick if you want the newer-generation Sentra with strong safety and a more current feel. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly route and still brings many of the same core strengths.
