Is the 2022 Nissan Sentra a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Nissan Sentra earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It is a well-rounded compact sedan that aims to be competent and affordable rather than flashy, and it benefits from being part of a newer generation after the 2020 redesign. That makes it a sensible entry-point choice if you want a small sedan that feels current without chasing a single headline feature.

The market also shows 31.6% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Nissan Sentra reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Sentra is described as a newer-generation model with a balanced, competent character, and its expert assessment highlights solid everyday usability rather than any major weak point. Its 2.0-litre four-cylinder setup is presented as consistent and satisfactory for commuting, city driving, and the occasional road trip.

It is backed by a five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty, which helps reduce long-term ownership risk for used buyers.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Sentra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim is the most basic version, with 16-inch steel wheels, halogen headlights, a 4.2-inch driver display, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The SV adds 16-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, premium cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The SR brings 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, remote start, sport cloth seats with orange accent stitching, and a more aggressive exterior look.
• Powertrain: Every model uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. In Canada, a six-speed manual is standard and a CVT is available, with the manual also offered on the SR.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, driver drowsiness monitoring, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and a surround-view parking monitor are additional features on the test model.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while SV and SR trims get an 8-inch screen. The system is easy to use, but it does not offer wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada-rated fuel consumption is 9.2 L/100 km city, 6.2 highway, and 7.9 combined with the manual transmission, or 8.0 city, 6.0 highway, and 7.1 combined with the CVT. SR figures rise slightly to 9.4/6.4/8.1 with the manual and 8.2/6.1/7.3 with the CVT.

Which 2022 Nissan Sentra trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Sentra is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, SR.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you the core safety tech, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, pushbutton start, and a usable 7-inch touchscreen. If you want the lowest-cost way into the Sentra, this is the trim to start with.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, premium cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and intelligent cruise control. It is the most balanced choice if you want more comfort and convenience without moving to the sportier look of the SR.
• SR: This trim is for you if you want the most distinctive appearance, with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, unique bumpers, side sills, and sport cloth seats with orange stitching. It also adds remote start and a more aggressive visual character.

The standard safety package is strong across the line, so you can shop by equipment and comfort rather than worrying about a major safety gap between trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Sentra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully before committing.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 291 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.02% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $18,607 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Sentra's resale value?

The current average of $18,607 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,150 CAD.

That decline suggests the Sentra has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier for you to find a competitive purchase price today. For a future seller, it also means the market has already adjusted downward, so resale gains may be more limited unless the car is especially well kept.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Sentra safe?

The 2022 Nissan Sentra earns five-star ratings from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick award from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, driver drowsiness monitoring, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and a surround-view parking monitor are also available on the test model.

The main caveat is that IIHS noted lower headlight ratings, even though the Sentra still earned top marks in crash testing and driver-assistance evaluation.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Sentra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It benefits from being two years removed from the 2020 redesign, which gives it a more current feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,148 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,607 CAD average.
• It blends style, efficiency, technology and performance in a way that feels like a smart choice rather than a compromise.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping opportunity, the 2022 is the stronger pick because it combines a lower average price, solid safety, and broad competence. If your priority is saving as much as possible up front, the 2021 is worth a look because it still delivers much of the Sentra’s core appeal at a lower price.
