Is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Drivers consistently praise the smooth drive, advanced features, and stylish look. For you, that means the Outlander has broad appeal if you want a contemporary SUV that feels more polished than Mitsubishi’s recent efforts. It also stands out as a redesigned, all-new model with a more modern identity, though the third row and cargo space can feel tight when all seats are in use.

With 34.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a meaningful share of the market that may be worth a closer look.

Is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels smooth, advanced, and stylish, while also being the kind of SUV owners can count on for everyday use. The expert review also describes it as a worthy consideration with few flaws, and Mitsubishi backs it with a 10-year/160,000-kilometre powertrain warranty, a five-year/100,000-kilometre standard warranty, and five years of free roadside assistance.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether you’ll be comfortable living with its driving quirks and packaging compromises over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lower trims get 18-inch alloy wheels, while the higher grades move to 20-inch wheels. The GT Premium adds premium semi-aniline leather, a head-up display, a premium sound system, and a power panoramic glass sunroof, so it is the most upscale choice if you want the richest cabin experience.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and a CVT paired with Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control AWD system. The review notes that it feels most responsive in lower-speed urban and suburban driving, but it can feel underpowered on highway ramps and during passing.
• Safety package: The Outlander includes forward collision mitigation, safe reversing, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also uses a hands-on Level 2 driver-assist system that works with commendable refinement, smoothness, and accuracy.
• Infotainment: The 9-inch touchscreen is standard on LE and up, and it includes Bluetooth and wireless Apple CarPlay. Android Auto requires a wire. Wireless smartphone charging is standard above the base model, and GT Premium adds a 10-speaker Bose premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Outlander returned 9.4 litres per 100 kilometres on the test route, against an official combined rating of 8.9 L/100 km for AWD models.

Which 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is offered in 7 trim levels: ES, SE, LE, LE Premium, SEL, GT, and GT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• ES: This is the entry point, but the lower trims miss out on some of the more appealing tech and upscale touches that make the Outlander feel modern. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, it gets you into the redesigned model, but it is not the most compelling value if you want the Outlander’s best features.
• SE: This trim adds to the basic formula without jumping all the way to the more luxurious equipment found higher up the range. It makes sense if you want a middle-ground choice, but it still leaves some of the standout cabin and technology upgrades on the table.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it brings the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth, and wireless Apple CarPlay. If you want the Outlander’s modern tech without stretching too far, this is the trim to focus on.
• LE Premium: This trim builds on LE with a more upscale feel, making it a sensible step up if you want more comfort and polish without going all the way to the top trims.
• SEL: This trim moves the Outlander further into premium territory and suits you if you want a more richly equipped family SUV.
• GT: This trim is where the Outlander starts to feel especially well equipped, with the 12.3-inch digital instrumentation display and other high-end touches that make the cabin feel more advanced.
• GT Premium: This is the most luxurious version, adding the head-up display, premium semi-aniline leather, premium sound system, and panoramic glass sunroof. It is the right pick if you want the most upscale Outlander experience.

The safety package is standard across the range, but the review notes that the steering-assistance and lane-departure systems can feel intrusive when the advanced driver-assist system is not engaged.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 186 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.70% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $25,494 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander's resale value?

The current average of $25,499 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,879 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Outlander has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if they price competitively. At the same time, the softer market means you should expect resale values to reflect current buyer caution rather than peak pricing.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander safe?

The 2022 Outlander earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings on frontal crash and rollover performance.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Outlander includes forward collision mitigation, safe reversing, lane-keeping assist and lane departure warning, plus blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert. Its hands-on Level 2 driver-assist system works with commendable refinement, smoothness, and accuracy, though the steering-assistance and lane-departure systems can feel intrusive when they are active outside that mode.

One caveat to keep in mind is that headlights on units built before July 2021 receive a Poor rating.

Should I buy a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as a redesigned, all-new model that marked a return to competitiveness for Mitsubishi.

The bottom line: If you want the more modern-feeling Outlander and you value the redesigned model’s styling, technology, and overall polish, the 2022 is the one to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on whichever listing gives you the best condition and equipment for the money.
