Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It is aimed at the full-size luxury SUV crowd, and its appeal comes from its size, prestige, and three-row packaging. The cabin presentation is a major part of the draw, with a high-quality feel and a clear premium image.

The market also shows 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The GLS is positioned as a large, upscale family vehicle, and the expert review describes it as a solid luxury SUV with a strong premium image. Its standard 4Matic all-wheel drive and air suspension add to its everyday capability, while the mild-hybrid inline-six is described as smooth and well suited to a luxury vehicle.

The performance notes also point to a well-integrated electric assist system that helps the engine work more efficiently. Mercedes includes a four-year, 80,000-kilometre basic warranty and a four-year, 80,000-kilometre powertrain warranty, which helps reduce early ownership risk.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is a complex, high-end SUV, so maintenance and repair costs can be substantial if previous care was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GLS 450 is the most subtle and least flashy version, while the AMG GLS 63 adds flared wheel arches, a more muscular grille and front bumper, prominent rectangular exhaust tips, and AMG-specific 22-inch wheels. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 adds extensive chrome, a traditional-looking hood ornament, power running boards, and available 23-inch wheels. The Maybach also adds luxuries like reclining rear seats, while the AMG version gets a more performance-oriented interior with stainless steel trim and heavily bolstered Nappa leather seats.
• Powertrain: The GLS 450 uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes EQ Boost mild-hybrid assistance. The gasoline engine makes 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and the electric motor can add 21 hp and 184 lb-ft in short bursts. All GLS models get standard 4Matic all-wheel drive, and the AMG GLS 63 uses a performance-tuned drivetrain.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, Crosswind Assist, lane-keep assist, parking assist, Trailer Stability Assist, and Pre Safe. Mercedes leaves some key features off the standard list, including a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, and more advanced driver-assistance features.
• Infotainment: The standard MBUX system includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and natural-language voice recognition. A 13-speaker Burmester audio system and a head-up display are optional.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the GLS 450 at 11.5 L/100 km combined, with 12.8 L/100 km in the city and 10.0 L/100 km on the highway.

Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS is offered in 4 trim levels: GLS 450 4Matic, GLS 580 4Matic, AMG GLS 63 4Matic+, and Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

• GLS 450 4Matic: This is the most sensible choice if you want the core GLS experience, including the smooth inline-six, standard 4Matic AWD, air suspension, and the luxury-first cabin without moving into the more expensive variants.
• GLS 580 4Matic: Choose this if you want more power and a V8 character, but still want to stay within the mainstream GLS lineup rather than the AMG or Maybach extremes.
• AMG GLS 63 4Matic+: This is the performance-focused option, with the most aggressive styling, a performance-tuned drivetrain, and a more bolstered, sportier interior.
• Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic: Pick this if rear-seat comfort and maximum prestige matter most, since it adds the most lavish exterior treatment and the richest cabin details.

The safety content also notes that several advanced driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, so check carefully for equipment on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 58 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.18% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $68,075 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?

The current average of $69,572 CAD sits slightly below last year's $75,772 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the vehicle is especially well equipped or exceptionally clean. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less depreciation pressure than someone who paid closer to last year's average. Strong condition and desirable equipment should matter more when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, Crosswind Assist, lane-keep assist, parking assist, Trailer Stability Assist, and Pre Safe. The system also includes a feature that can warn if it’s unsafe to open a door when parked.

Mercedes leaves some important features off the standard list, including a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, and more advanced driver-assistance features. Those items are available, but you should verify them on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model year is positioned as the current version of the GLS, with the third-generation design and a strong premium image.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $72,531 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $69,572 CAD average.
• It is described as the S-Class of SUVs, with comfort and prestige as its main strengths.

The bottom line: If you want the better-priced option with stronger current market value, the 2022 is the smarter starting point. If your priority is the earlier model-year framing and you find a particularly clean example, the 2021 can still appeal, but you should expect to pay more.
