Why it stands out
The 2022 Kia Soul stands out because it keeps the model’s familiar boxy shape while pairing it with a practical, well-equipped cabin and a strong value proposition. In this generation, Kia gave the Soul a new chassis, more current technology, and more safety and powertrain content, along with a three-centimetre longer wheelbase and 5.5-centimetre more overall length for added comfort and interior space. It also gained useful everyday touches such as dual-zone climate control and wireless phone charging, while the Canadian line-up included features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen on higher trims, a head-up display, and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon stereo with a subwoofer. Heated front seats and side mirrors were standard.
Mechanically, the 2022 Kia Soul uses a 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine rated at 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission. Fuel consumption was rated at 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres, which the source says was about 10% better than the previous model. For 2022, Kia also made an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system standard and adopted the brand’s new logo. That combination of distinctive styling, generous space, and improved efficiency helps explain the Soul’s appeal.
There are still some trade-offs. The source notes that the turbo engine was discontinued in Canada, so buyers looking for extra performance will not find it here. Even so, the 2022 Kia Soul remains attractive for shoppers who want a small vehicle that is practical, easy to live with, and a little more interesting than the average hatchback.

I love the Kia Soul, especially with the extra boost because of the turbo. It can really use some more trunk space, that’s the only reason I don’t have this one in my garage. Other than that, this vehicle is AWESOME.

Fun sporty car with heated seats (EX). Feel higher up than compact car and comfortable to get in and out. Back hatch roomy with privacy cover. Great gas mileage 33-37mpg. Glad found new one just delivered to dealer.

| Year-Round Low | $19,009 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $21,215 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,215 CAD |

There are 146 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 Kia Soul a good car?
Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2022 Kia Soul, and it lines up with the model’s practical, space-efficient character. The Soul stands out because it keeps its quirky, boxy personality while still being genuinely useful, with a lot of interior room for a subcompact hatchback. For 2022, it also benefits from a larger standard touchscreen, heated front seats and side mirrors, and available convenience and driver-assistance features that make it easy to live with. With 35.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Kia Soul reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Soul is described as a practical, value-conscious small vehicle with a comfort-focused package and a roomy cabin. Its standard 2.0-litre engine is not tuned for strong performance, but the model’s appeal is more about everyday usability than speed. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure any recall work has been completed before you commit.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Soul?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on standout listings.
- Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 146 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.03% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $19,009 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Kia Soul's resale value?
The current average of $19,723 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,215 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more attractive level today, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. The Soul’s strong value proposition and distinctive design should help it remain appealing to used shoppers. If demand holds, a well-kept example can still be easier to move than a more ordinary small hatchback.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Kia Soul or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.03% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $21,325 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $19,723 CAD average.
- It adds styling tweaks and a refreshed trim lineup.
The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the better value and are focused on practicality, space, and a distinctive look. Consider the 2023 if you want the newer styling updates and are willing to pay more; if price matters most, the 2022 is the smarter starting point.
