Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid stands out first for its brand-new design, which gives the Tucson a distinctive look in a crowded compact crossover segment. It brings an angular exterior, a fresh-look cabin, and a refined suspension, helping it feel more polished than merely practical. Hyundai also pairs that redesign with a hybrid powertrain that delivers compelling performance and driving dynamics, making this version of the Tucson more engaging than many shoppers might expect from a family-focused crossover.
That combination makes the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid appealing to small families and buyers who want a vehicle that can handle everyday duties without feeling dull. It offers enough space for the class, and owner feedback reinforces its strengths with praise for smooth, quiet rides, impressive fuel economy, and a wealth of high-end features. Some shoppers may still want to note the reported lack of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in top trims, along with limited availability in preferred configurations, but the overall package is clearly aimed at buyers who want style, efficiency, and a more refined driving experience in one vehicle.

I was between the Tucson, Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV and Kia Sportage, and I am beyond happy with the Tucson hybrid. I love all the technology, the quiet cabin, and smooth drive, among so many other things! I feel like I got the most for my money after test driving them all, and I’m looking forward to driving this car for years to come.

Pros: Its jam-packed with features that most competitors charge premium fees for. Stylish look Powerful engine No CVT transmission Very quiet, Excellent gas mileage for its size. Cons: The seats are heated and not cooled. Heated seats are not as important, especially in cloth-trimmed seats, as the body heat would do the trick. Instead, the steering wheel should be heated at the SEL trim and above. The SEL hybrid trim does not have leather-trimmed seats like the non-hybrid model. The interior and exterior colors are limited No Walk Away Auto Lock *Overall, great car and worth every $

Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid a good car?

You also get recurring praise for its smooth and quiet ride, impressive fuel economy, and wealth of high-end features. Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback repeatedly points to a reliable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers praising the Tucson Hybrid’s smooth operation, strong fuel economy, and overall value. The expert assessment also highlights a refined suspension and a hybrid setup that feels well sorted for daily use, which supports the impression of dependable day-to-day ownership. Hyundai’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about core dependability and more about finding the right configuration and confirming that the vehicle’s features match what you expect.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lower trims use 17-inch alloy wheels, while the N Line, Luxury, and Ultimate grades move to 19-inch wheels. The Preferred trim adds a panoramic sunroof with the Trend Package, and the Luxury and Ultimate trims add a hands-free smart liftgate. The base trim is lighter on convenience and comfort features, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want a more premium feel.
- Powertrain: The hybrid uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a combined 226 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It feels noticeably quicker than the gas model, and the six-speed automatic manages the power well. All-wheel drive is standard on most hybrid trims.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, a driver-attention monitor, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, and rear occupant alert. The Preferred trim adds blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and safe-exit warning. The Ultimate trim adds a surround-view monitor, highway-driving assist, navigation, blind-spot view monitor, and remote smart park assist.
- Infotainment: Lower grades use an 8-inch screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while the 10.25-inch screen in upper trims requires a wired connection for phone projection. You should also check whether you want the larger display, Bose premium audio, and the extra USB ports.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada lists the Tucson Hybrid at 6.3 L/100 km in the city, 6.6 on the highway, and 6.4 combined. In testing, it returned 6.4 L/100 km.
Which 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Ultimate.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the entry point, and it gives you the hybrid powertrain at the lowest price, but it is the least equipped version. It makes sense if you want the hybrid experience and plan to keep costs down.
- Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a stronger mix of comfort and safety equipment, including an eight-way power driver seat, heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, proximity key, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and safe-exit warning.
- Luxury: This trim adds more premium convenience and tech, including the 10.25-inch digital driver information display, wireless device charging, ambient lighting, and ventilated front seats. It is a good fit if you want a more upscale cabin without going all the way to the top trim.
- Ultimate: This is the most feature-rich version, adding the surround-view monitor, highway-driving assist, navigation, blind-spot view monitor, remote smart park assist, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, front-seat ventilation, and driver’s seat memory. It is the right choice if you want the fullest equipment list.
The Preferred trim is the one to watch if you want the strongest balance of price, safety, and everyday usability.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 140 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.81% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $26,990 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $27,308 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,055 CAD.
That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Tucson Hybrid more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means you may not see the same pricing strength that this model had a year ago. Even so, the combination of strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal should help support demand over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid safe?
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid earns a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, a driver-attention monitor, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, and rear occupant alert. The Preferred trim adds blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and safe-exit warning, while the Ultimate trim adds a surround-view monitor, highway-driving assist, navigation, blind-spot view monitor, and remote smart park assist.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.81% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 stands out for its brand-new design, refined suspension, and hybrid powertrain that delivers compelling performance and driving dynamics.
The bottom line: If you want the Tucson Hybrid with its fresh redesign, strong owner approval, and a market that has softened enough to create some buying opportunity, the 2022 is the one to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can focus on the lower end of the range and look for a listing near the year-round low, but the best overall path is to prioritise condition, equipment, and deal quality over chasing the absolute cheapest example.
