CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Honda Passport
overall

Summary
With 107 currently listed for sale and an average price of $37,746 CAD, 28.0% of 2022 Honda Passport listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Honda Passport 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Honda Passport stands out as a rugged-leaning two-row midsize SUV with a light restyle that gives it a tougher look. It is also the first Honda SUV to wear the TrailSport trim name, which is aimed at buyers who want a more outdoorsy feel. For 2022, Honda also added revised wheel designs, fresh paint colours, and new safety features.
Behind that updated appearance, the Passport still has the practical strengths that make it appealing to shoppers. It is described as fun to drive, comfortable, and generous with cargo space. The trade-offs are worth noting, though: its infotainment technology is outdated, its advanced safety features are unrefined, and it does not earn top safety ratings.

All the features are awesome! Plus, I got a great deal on this vehicle! Nothing is missing from the SUV. This SUV is very similar to the Honda Pilot except for the third-row seating.

We love the Honda Passport for the amount of room inside & all the safety features it came with. I thought it was very comparible in price to the Ford Edge.

Reviewed a 2022 Honda TrailSport AWD on Nov 4, 2022
I had narrowed my search to 3 manufacturers and test drove one from each . Actually I drove two at Honda. The EXL and the Trail Sport. IMO there was definitely a different feel to the two trims. This is due to the wheel size I would imagine. The other models were the Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota Highlander. The Honda passport just has a heavier sturdier feel, more like a truck. Almost forgot, I also drove a loaner Subaru Ascent for a week. It was a nice vehicle. But still preferred the Passport. It just has a much sturdier feel to it. I am still learning all the accessories. This vehicle is impressively equipped. I can’t think of anything else I could want as far as features and accessories. Love my new SUV!

How much does the 2022 Honda Passport cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $37,814 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $37,565 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $41,572 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $41,560 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.01% |
Prices have softened 9.01% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 107 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the market.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Honda Passport earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Form and function.
It suits you well if you want a rugged-leaning two-row midsize SUV with a tougher look, a comfortable cabin, and generous cargo space. The trade-offs are that its infotainment technology is outdated and its advanced safety features are less refined than many rivals.
The Passport’s current market shows 26.2% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Passport’s appeal comes from its robust drivetrain, roomy and comfortable cabin, and simple utility. Its 3.5-litre V6 and standard all-wheel drive give it a durable, proven feel, while the overall package is aimed at buyers who value everyday usefulness over the latest technology.
Honda also includes a generous standard equipment list, which helps the Passport feel well equipped from the start. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that its older platform and dated tech may age less gracefully than newer rivals.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Passport?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Sport gives you the essentials, while the TrailSport adds a tougher look, unique 18-inch wheels, a roof rack, simulated skid plates, orange contrast stitching, amber ambient lighting, and embroidered headrest emblems. Touring sits at the top with the most equipment, so the base trim is the one most likely to feel light on extras.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with 280 horsepower, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel drive. The engine is smooth and strong, and the Passport is tuned more for everyday road use than serious off-road work.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder. The system is comprehensive, but some functions are less refined than you may expect.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Satellite radio starts with TrailSport, while Touring adds navigation, a 10-speaker premium audio system, and HondaLink connected services with WiFi hotspot access. Wireless smartphone charging is standard on all but the base Sport.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Passport at 11.3 L/100 km combined, and the TrailSport test vehicle averaged 11.0 L/100 km.
Which 2022 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2022 Honda Passport is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, TrailSport, and Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Passport’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get the roomy cabin, standard all-wheel drive, the V6 powertrain, and the full Honda Sensing suite, but you miss out on some convenience and tech upgrades.
- TrailSport: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the Passport’s new rugged styling, unique wheels, roof rack, skid-plate styling, and extra interior flair while keeping the same strong mechanical package. It suits you if you want the outdoorsy look and a bit more presence without moving all the way to the top trim.
- Touring: Choose this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including navigation, the premium audio system, and HondaLink connected services. It makes the most sense if you plan to keep the Passport for long trips and want the most complete equipment list.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core safety package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Passport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 107 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.01% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $37,565 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $37,814 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,560 CAD.
That softer pricing means future sellers may face a more competitive market than they did a year ago. If you own one, the Passport’s broad appeal, strong utility, and comfortable driving character should still help it attract shoppers who want a practical two-row SUV.
The current price trend also suggests buyers are being more selective, which can put pressure on resale values in the near term. Even so, vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport safe?
The Passport earns five-star ratings in all but front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision, which earns the SUV four stars. It also gets a four-star rating for rollover resistance, typical for SUVs.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder.
The main caveat is that some of the driver-assist functions are less refined than you may want, and the Passport also falls short of top crash-test performance in some areas.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.01% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 brings the first TrailSport trim name and revised safety features, which give it a fresher feel than the outgoing version.
The bottom line: If you want the refreshed Passport with the TrailSport option and a softer used-market price, the 2022 is the one to target. If you are mainly shopping on price, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2022 offers a good balance of updated styling, strong utility, and better value than it did a year ago.
How does the 2022 Honda Passport compare to the 2022 Toyota 4Runner?
Our experts score the 2022 Honda Passport 6.7/10 and the 2022 Toyota 4Runner 7/10. The Passport is the better pick if you want stronger on-road manners, better fuel economy, and a more comfortable everyday driving experience. The 4Runner has the edge if you value a more rugged character and a stronger market presence, but it also carries a much higher average used price.
