How much does the 2022 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 8.41% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2022 GMC Canyon a good car?

Yes — the 2022 GMC Canyon earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, responsive handling, and low road noise, while also highlighting its strong interior quality. That lines up well with the Canyon’s use case as a midsize pickup that gives you truck utility in a smaller, easier-to-live-with footprint. The market also shows 27.4% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

The owner feedback also points to a truck that feels dependable and trouble-free in everyday use, with praise for its smooth ride and low road noise reinforcing that impression. On the expert side, the Canyon’s performance notes describe it as solid and steady both on and off the pavement, which supports confidence in day-to-day ownership. The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that some examples may be missing desirable convenience features, so you should verify equipment carefully before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Canyon?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Elevation Standard is the most stripped-down version, while the Denali adds a more upscale look and feel with features such as a unique chrome grille, 20-inch diamond-cut machined alloy wheels, heated and ventilated perforated front leather seats, open-pore Ash wood trim, and a Bose premium audio system. The AT4 brings a more rugged, premium cabin and exterior treatment, while the Elevation and Elevation Standard feel more conventional inside.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 200-horsepower 2.5-litre four-cylinder, a 308-hp 3.6-litre V6, or a 181-hp 2.8-litre Duramax turbodiesel four-cylinder with 369 lb-ft of torque. The V6 and diesel are the stronger choices if you want more capability, while the base four-cylinder is described as adequate but uninspiring.
• Safety package: The Driver Alert package adds forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, and rear parking assistance. It is available on the Elevation and AT4 and standard on the Denali, but rear park assist is only available on models equipped with leather seats.
• Infotainment: The Elevation Standard gets a 7-inch colour touchscreen. The Elevation upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth streaming audio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Denali adds navigation and a high-definition rearview camera, while the AT4 can be equipped with wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada lists combined fuel consumption of 10.9 L/100 km for the 2.5-litre four-cylinder, 10.1 L/100 km for the turbodiesel with RWD, and 11.3 L/100 km for the V6 with RWD. With 4WD, those figures rise to 11.4 L/100 km, 10.5 L/100 km, and 12.1 L/100 km, respectively.

Which 2022 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the value-focused starting point, but it is also the most basic version. You get the essentials, including the 7-inch touchscreen, tire-fill alert, and Teen Driver, but you miss out on the more upscale cabin and the added convenience features found higher up the range.
• Elevation: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth streaming audio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto without jumping all the way to the pricier luxury or off-road models.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the rugged look and off-road hardware. It adds premium-feeling touches, off-road suspension, an Autotrac two-speed electronic transfer case, an auto-locking rear differential, hill-descent control, and available wireless charging.
• Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the most upscale appearance and the richest feature set. It adds navigation, a high-definition rearview camera, and the Driver Alert package as standard, along with the most premium interior presentation.

The safety-package trim note is simple: the Driver Alert package is available on the Elevation and AT4, and standard on the Denali, but rear park assist requires leather seats.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Canyon?

The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 117 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.41% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $37,089 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $37,245 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,664 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Canyon is currently in a buyer-friendly phase, which can be useful if you are planning to sell later and want to understand today’s market baseline. A lower entry price can also help keep depreciation from feeling as steep if you buy at the right number. If demand stays steady, the Canyon’s premium positioning and broad trim range should help it remain appealing to used-truck shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2022 GMC Canyon earned four-star ratings in frontal crash protection and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in side protection from NHTSA.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The base Elevation Standard does not come with advanced driver aids, but it does include tire-fill alert and Teen Driver, which lets parents monitor driving habits, set audio volume and vehicle speed limits, and use Buckle-to-Drive. The Driver Alert package adds forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, and rear parking assistance, though rear park assist is only available on models equipped with leather seats. The main caveat is that adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and lane-keeping or lane-centring assistance are not available.

The IIHS results also show some weak spots: the Canyon received a Poor rating for the front passenger-side small overlap Structure and Safety Cage test, a Poor rating for headlights, a Basic rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention, and a Marginal rating for LATCH child-seat anchors.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new Denali Black Edition package and renames the High Elevation package to Elevation Premium.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $34,490 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $37,245 CAD average.
• It adds a refreshed face and a new AT4 trim.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $48,564 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $37,245 CAD average.
• It brings a redesigned next-generation platform with more upscale tech and an AT4X off-road model.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best fit if you want the current-year Canyon at a softer price and with strong owner satisfaction. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play. If you want the newest design and can stretch your budget, the 2023 is the more advanced choice.
