Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer earns a 4.33/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable and functional interior, stylish design, and smooth ride. The Trailblazer also comes across as a practical, value-focused small SUV with broad appeal, especially if you want something that feels easy to live with every day.

That said, its appeal is strongest if you want a personality-rich subcompact crossover rather than a performance vehicle. The overview points to a practical, affordable, and stylish package, and the market shows 25.0% of listings are good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights a comfortable and functional interior, stylish design, and a smooth ride, while also describing the Trailblazer as a great value in the right trim. That combination suggests it can be a dependable everyday choice if you buy carefully.

The expert evaluation also describes it as useful and safe, with a well-sorted overall character for daily driving. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a poorly equipped or overpriced example that doesn’t match the model’s strengths.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trailblazer comes in LS, LT, Activ, and RS trims. The LT is unusual because it uses front-wheel drive and a CVT, while the other trims get all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic. The RS test vehicle was the priciest example, and the evaluation notes that paying too much for a Trailblazer makes little sense, so the LT is the best-value starting point if you plan to build up from there.
• Powertrain: In Canada, the Trailblazer uses the larger 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 155 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque. The AWD version is the one to drive if you want the more satisfying nine-speed automatic and the better ride-and-handling setup.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available.
• Infotainment: You get a 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, plus Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Chevrolet Connected Services readiness, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Teen Driver technology is standard, and wireless smartphone charging is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The official combined rating is 8.4 L/100 km with AWD and 7.6 L/100 km with FWD. In testing, the AWD Trailblazer averaged 9.0 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, but the Trailblazer’s strongest case is its style and standard safety, so the LS makes sense only if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the richer equipment found higher up.
• LT: This is the best-value trim. It’s the one the expert review points to as the smarter buy, and it adds the front-wheel-drive/CVT setup that helps keep the Trailblazer more affordable.
• Activ: Choose this if you want the most outdoorsy flavour in the lineup. It adds off-road suspension tuning, sport-terrain tires, and a front skid plate, though the review still cautions against rough terrain.
• RS: Pick this if you care most about appearance and a more upscale look, but the review makes clear that it is too expensive to justify unless you really want the top-end styling.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core safety suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough price movement to create opportunities.

• Deal availability: 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 228 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.45% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,107 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $22,121 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,981 CAD.

That price drop suggests the Trailblazer has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer market if prices continue to normalise. If you buy well now, you may be starting from a more favourable entry point than owners who purchased when prices were higher.

The model’s broad appeal, practical layout, and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer earns top crash-test ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Every Trailblazer also gets 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, and Teen Driver technology.

Blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available. That means the core safety package is strong, but some of the more advanced driver-assistance features still depend on trim or options.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds a heated steering wheel, new paint colours, and an available dealer-installed trailering package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,378 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,121 CAD average.
• It launched as a stylish, affordable entry-point with strong standard features.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,236 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,121 CAD average.
• It adds fresh paint choices and keeps the Trailblazer’s easy-to-use tech and practical appeal.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want the updated convenience touches and a market that has softened enough to create buying opportunities. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want the newest example and do not mind paying more, the 2023 is the alternative to compare.
