Used 2021 Volvo XC90 for Sale nearWoodbridge, ON

How much does the 2021 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 14.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 99 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

The XC90 is Volvo’s de facto flagship, and it leans into that role with a polished design, a safety-first identity, and a luxury-SUV mission that still feels distinctive in the midsize class. It is no longer the newest entry in the segment, but it remains a refined, safety-focused alternative with broad appeal for shoppers who want a premium family SUV.

34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s reliability case is helped by Volvo’s established safety focus and its reputation for thoughtful engineering, while the expert assessment also points to a refined driving experience and a cabin that feels more substantial than a simple feature list. The powertrains are built around a 2.0-litre four-cylinder layout, and the plug-in hybrid adds electric assist rather than a more complex multi-engine setup.

Volvo also includes a four-year, 80,000-kilometre basic warranty and a four-year, 80,000-kilometre powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that luxury-SUV upkeep can still be costly if the vehicle has been poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Momentum is the base model and does not get the extra visual polish of the higher trims, while R-Design adds a sportier look and Inscription is the flashiest version with more chrome and available upscale touches. If you want the best value, the midlevel R-Design is the one to focus on.
• Powertrain: The XC90 uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine across the range, with a turbocharged T5, a turbo- and supercharged T6, and a T8 plug-in hybrid that adds electric assist. The plug-in hybrid is the most powerful, but the content notes that efficiency and power can be a trade-off.
• Safety package: The XC90 includes lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The non-hybrid models get the strongest IIHS recognition, while the plug-in hybrid is not covered by the updated IIHS rating.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, and Bluetooth. Wireless charging was added for 2021, but the content notes that it will not fit most phones.
• Fuel efficiency: The T5 AWD is rated at 10.1 L/100 km combined, the T6 AWD at 10.5 L/100 km combined, and the T8 Recharge can use as little as 8.8 L/100 km combined in hybrid mode, with an efficiency rating of 4.0 Le/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC90’s core safety-first luxury-SUV character without the extra visual upgrades of the pricier trims.
• R-Design: This is the best-value trim if you want a more distinctive look, since it adds a sportier appearance and sits in the sweet spot between price and equipment.
• Inscription: Choose this if you want the most upscale presentation, with the richest trim treatment and the flashiest appearance in the lineup.

The non-hybrid XC90 models received top “Good” scores in all IIHS crash tests, while the plug-in hybrid is not covered by the updated IIHS rating.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volvo XC90?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 99 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.65% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,450 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $35,397 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,470 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you are buying now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about where the market has settled. The year-over-year decline suggests the XC90 has moved into a more buyer-friendly price band, which can limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, a well-kept example with the right equipment should still attract interest from shoppers who want a premium, safety-focused SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2021 XC90 received the highest “Top Safety Pick+” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it five-star overall safety ratings, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests, and four-star ratings in rollover testing.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The XC90 comes with a long list of standard driver-assistance features, including lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. One caveat is that the IIHS top rating applies to non-hybrid models, since the XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid has not been updated in the IIHS testing.

Should I buy a 2021 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings modest updates, including newly standard tech features and a 180-kilometre-per-hour limit for safety.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $41,432 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $35,397 CAD average.
• It adds an available plug-in hybrid with lower fuel consumption.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2021 if you want the better value and are comfortable with a model that already has the XC90’s core strengths in place. If your priority is newer-year pricing with a lower entry cost, the 2021 is the smarter buy; if you want the next model year’s efficiency focus, it is worth stretching to the 2022.
