How much does the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 10.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Yes — you rate it 4.5/5, and the expert rating is 7.8/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its value, safety features, fuel economy, handling, and comfortable driving experience. That lines up well with the Crosstrek’s everyday-use focus: it gives you SUV-like styling cues, standard all-wheel drive, and a practical small-package layout. For shoppers who want a compact vehicle that feels useful in poor weather and easy to live with, that combination is a big part of the appeal.

There are 24.5% good or great deals in the market, which points to decent availability for value-minded shoppers.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for the Crosstrek’s value and fuel economy reinforcing that impression. The expert assessment adds that Subaru has a fairly good reputation for reliability, and the model’s cameras are better protected than grille-mounted systems used by some rivals, which may help avoid expensive repair bills after minor damage. Subaru’s five-year/100,000-kilometre major component warranty and three-year/60,000 km basic warranty are average for the segment, so used buyers should still check service history carefully and pay attention to wear items and any signs of neglected maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is the most stripped-back version, while higher trims add more equipment and a more polished feel. The Outdoor grade stands out with water-repellant upholstery and interior accents, while Limited adds larger 18-inch wheels and more upscale content.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-litre boxer-four on the lower trims and a 2.5-litre boxer-four on Outdoor and Limited. The 2.5-litre engine brings more power, while the 2.0-litre remains the simpler choice and can be paired with a manual transmission.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance system is the key suite to look for. CVT-equipped models get adaptive cruise control with lane centring, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning, while higher trims add automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The IIHS Top Safety Pick rating applies only to models with some available EyeSight features and Steering Responsive Headlights.
• Infotainment: The Crosstrek uses Subaru’s Starlink system with a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, and Bluetooth. Outdoor, Sport, and Limited trims get an 8-inch touchscreen, and Limited adds navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-litre engine is rated at 8.0 L/100 km combined, while the 2.0-litre CVT version is rated at 7.9 L/100 km combined. With the manual transmission, the 2.0-litre engine is rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 5 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Sport, Limited, Outdoor.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point if you want the Crosstrek’s standard all-wheel drive and SUV-like look at the lowest cost, but it is the most basic way into the lineup.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday equipment without pushing you too far up the price ladder.
• Outdoor: This is the most distinctive choice if you want the newer 2.5-litre engine, the 8-inch touchscreen, and the water-repellant interior treatment.
• Sport: This trim is a good fit if you want the larger touchscreen and more equipment, but it is CVT-only.
• Limited: This is the most fully equipped choice, with the 2.5-litre engine, 18-inch wheels, and navigation standard.

The safety-package note to keep in mind is that the IIHS Top Safety Pick rating applies only to models with some available EyeSight features and Steering Responsive Headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 24.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 200 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.03% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,127 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $23,205 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,792 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they bought at a lower point in the cycle. It also means you may not see the same upside from appreciation that you would in a tighter market, so resale performance will depend more on condition, mileage, and trim desirability. Well-equipped versions with strong safety and convenience content should remain easier to move than bare-bones examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash tests and four-star ratings in frontal and rollover crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance system is the key safety suite here. On CVT-equipped models, it includes adaptive cruise control with lane centring, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Higher trims add automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The IIHS gives the Crosstrek its Top Safety Pick award, but that result applies only to models with some available EyeSight features and Steering Responsive Headlights.

One caveat is that EyeSight’s camera-based system can be limited by blocked or washed-out cameras, which may temporarily disable driver aids.

Should I buy a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 24.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model year adds the new Outdoor trim, the available 2.5-litre engine, and an upgraded EyeSight system.

The bottom line: The 2021 Crosstrek is a smart pick if you want the updated trim and powertrain mix without paying for a newer model year. If your priority is the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby year may still be worth comparing, but the 2021 gives you a strong balance of value, safety, and equipment.
