CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Nissan Sentra
overall

Summary
With 12 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,693 CAD, 16.7% of 2021 Nissan Sentra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Nissan Sentra 4.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Nissan Sentra stands out as a compact car that blends style, efficiency, technology and performance in a way that makes it feel like a smart choice rather than a compromise. Its updated design gives it a more attractive exterior and interior, and that stronger visual appeal is paired with competitive safety, technology and fuel efficiency. For buyers shopping in the compact sedan class, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
Owner feedback reinforces those strengths, especially the stylish cabin, safety features and fuel efficiency. At the same time, some drivers have noted that the trunk space is smaller than in older models and that road noise can be an issue while driving. Those drawbacks do not erase the Sentra’s core appeal, but they do suggest that shoppers who prioritise cargo room or a quieter ride may want to weigh those factors carefully.

The cars features were in good condition and well maintained. It was clean and intact apart from very minimal scratches. The car appeared to be new despite having mileage and a previous owner. The value presented itself in well condition to match for the selling price.

The 2021 Nissan Sentra SV is by far the best Sentra yet - sadly our new 21 was taken out with less than 10,000 miles on it by an uninsured and unregistered illegal motorist. The oncoming car hit our vehicle while doing 54 mph in a 40 mph zone. All ten airbags deployed. Our car was spun 90 degrees and sent 42 feet backwards from the point of impact. The Sentra did what it was designed to do -- crumpled in the engine compartment to take most of the blow. Our son was able to walk away with bumps, bruises, cuts from the airbags, and just a major injury to his right hip and leg. His hip and leg were severely bruised to the bone --were on the verge of breaking. The tow company said they were astounded that he was able to basically walk away -- albeit on crutches for a couple weeks -- because other cars with the level of damage as to his Sentra had worse outcomes. The 21 Sentra SV is a great re-design and offers incredible value with the Safety Shield 360 technology. The fuel economy is also great. This is a daily and reliable kind of vehicle. Zero gravity seats in our model were also a big plus. Thanking Nissans engineers for their excellent engineering design because this car saved our sons life.

User feedback also points to a car that feels reliable, dependable, and easy to live with over time. The expert assessment reinforces that impression by describing it as reliable and a good fit for years of ownership.
If you want a used compact sedan you can count on, the Sentra’s ownership profile suggests relatively low long-term risk, especially if you choose a well-maintained example.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Sentra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The S is the base model and is nicely equipped, while SV adds rear disc brakes, nicer interior materials, and more tech. SR brings the top trim position, and SR Premium caps the line-up with the most equipment. If you want the best value, the SV is the trim to focus on.
- Powertrain: All Canadian Sentra models use a 2.0-litre gasoline four-cylinder with 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, paired with front-wheel drive and either a CVT or, on S and SR, a six-speed manual transmission. The CVT is described as adequate for commuting and town driving.
- Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes intelligent forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a backup camera, a rear sonar system, vehicle dynamic control with traction control, intelligent engine brake, active ride control, intelligent trace control, hill-start assist, high-beam assist, and intelligent driver alertness. SV and SR add adaptive cruise control, while SR Premium includes a 360-degree camera system.
- Infotainment: The S uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while SV and SR get an 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range, along with Bluetooth audio and hands-free text messaging. Wireless smartphone integration and over-the-air updates are not mentioned.
- Fuel efficiency: Fuel consumption is 8.0 L/100 km city, 6.0 highway, and 7.1 combined for S and SV models, while SR models use 8.2 L/100 km city, 6.2 highway, and 7.3 combined. Manual-transmission versions are slightly less efficient.
Which 2021 Nissan Sentra trim should I buy?
The 2021 Nissan Sentra is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SR, SR Premium.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Sentra experience with the 2.0-litre engine, standard safety tech, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 7-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds rear disc brakes, nicer interior materials, more tech, and an 8-inch touchscreen. It also gets adaptive cruise control, which makes it the most balanced choice.
- SR: Choose this if you want the top mainstream trim with the more upscale equipment and the available manual transmission. It also gets the larger touchscreen and adaptive cruise control.
- SR Premium: This is the most feature-rich version, adding the 360-degree camera system and premium Bose audio with eight speakers. It suits you if you want the most convenience and tech.
SV and SR models include adaptive cruise control, while SR Premium adds the 360-degree camera system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Sentra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should have some room to shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 230 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.60% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $17,481 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Nissan Sentra's resale value?
The current average of $17,481 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,232 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. For a seller, the current trend suggests you may need to price competitively to move the car quickly.
The Sentra’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, especially among shoppers who value efficiency, safety, and a polished cabin. That should help resale hold up better than a less well-liked compact sedan.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Nissan Sentra safe?
The 2021 Nissan Sentra earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, and it includes intelligent forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a backup camera, a rear sonar system, vehicle dynamic control with traction control, intelligent engine brake, active ride control, intelligent trace control, hill-start assist, high-beam assist, and intelligent driver alertness.
Base S models get standard cruise control, while SV and SR models add adaptive cruise control. SR Premium models also include a 360-degree camera system.
Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Sentra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.60% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 combines a mature redesign with strong safety, technology, and fuel efficiency.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $18,851 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,481 CAD average.
- It offers a broadly capable, modern-feeling compact sedan package.
The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the stronger value proposition and a softer used-market price. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative, but price-sensitive buyers should start with the 2021.
