CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Nissan Sentra
overall

Summary
With 226 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,472 CAD, 27.4% of 2021 Nissan Sentra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Nissan Sentra 4.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Nissan Sentra stands out as a compact car that blends style, efficiency, technology and performance in a way that makes it feel like a smart choice rather than a compromise. Its updated design gives it a more attractive exterior and interior, and that stronger visual appeal is paired with competitive safety, technology and fuel efficiency. For buyers shopping in the compact sedan class, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
Owner feedback reinforces those strengths, especially the stylish cabin, safety features and fuel efficiency. At the same time, some drivers have noted that the trunk space is smaller than in older models and that road noise can be an issue while driving. Those drawbacks do not erase the Sentra’s core appeal, but they do suggest that shoppers who prioritise cargo room or a quieter ride may want to weigh those factors carefully.

The cars features were in good condition and well maintained. It was clean and intact apart from very minimal scratches. The car appeared to be new despite having mileage and a previous owner. The value presented itself in well condition to match for the selling price.

Reviewed a 2021 Nissan Sentra on Feb 21, 2023
The 2021 Nissan Sentra SV is by far the best Sentra yet - sadly our new 21 was taken out with less than 10,000 miles on it by an uninsured and unregistered illegal motorist. The oncoming car hit our vehicle while doing 54 mph in a 40 mph zone. All ten airbags deployed. Our car was spun 90 degrees and sent 42 feet backwards from the point of impact. The Sentra did what it was designed to do -- crumpled in the engine compartment to take most of the blow. Our son was able to walk away with bumps, bruises, cuts from the airbags, and just a major injury to his right hip and leg. His hip and leg were severely bruised to the bone --were on the verge of breaking. The tow company said they were astounded that he was able to basically walk away -- albeit on crutches for a couple weeks -- because other cars with the level of damage as to his Sentra had worse outcomes. The 21 Sentra SV is a great re-design and offers incredible value with the Safety Shield 360 technology. The fuel economy is also great. This is a daily and reliable kind of vehicle. Zero gravity seats in our model were also a big plus. Thanking Nissans engineers for their excellent engineering design because this car saved our sons life.

| Year-Round High | $20,039 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $20,039 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.79% |

There are 224 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Nissan Sentra a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Nissan Sentra earns a 4.83/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the stylish interior, safety features, and fuel efficiency. That lines up well with its compact-sedan mission: it aims to feel like a smart choice rather than a compromise, especially if you want an efficient daily driver with a more attractive cabin and exterior than older Sentras.
With 28.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room for value-focused shoppers.
Is the 2021 Nissan Sentra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in everyday use, with repeated praise for its fuel efficiency and overall satisfaction. The expert assessment also describes it as reliable, and notes that it is a comfortable, grown-up compact sedan worthy of a place of pride in the driveway.
If you want a used compact sedan you can count on for commuting and routine ownership, the Sentra’s reputation here is encouraging. The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that comfort and efficiency come with some trade-offs in cargo space and cabin noise.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Sentra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The S is the simplest version, with a 7-inch touchscreen, four speakers, front disc/rear drum brakes, and standard cruise control. SV and SR add an 8-inch touchscreen, six speakers, SiriusXM capability, rear disc brakes, and adaptive cruise control, while SR Premium adds a 360-degree camera system.
- Powertrain: All models use a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, paired with front-wheel drive and either a CVT or, on S and SR, a six-speed manual.
- Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes intelligent forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a backup camera, rear sonar, high-beam assist, and intelligent driver alertness. Base S models get standard cruise control, while SV and SR add adaptive cruise control.
- Infotainment: The S uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while SV and SR get an 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range, along with Bluetooth audio, hands-free calling, and a hands-free text-messaging assistant.
- Fuel efficiency: Fuel consumption is rated at 8.0 L/100 km city, 6.0 highway, and 7.1 combined for S and SV models, while SR models are rated at 8.2 city, 6.2 highway, and 7.3 combined. Manual-transmission versions are slightly less efficient.
Which 2021 Nissan Sentra trim should I buy?
The 2021 Nissan Sentra is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SR, SR Premium.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and can live with the simpler 7-inch screen, four-speaker audio, and rear drum brakes. It still gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the full Safety Shield 360 suite, so it covers the essentials well.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio, SiriusXM capability, rear disc brakes, nicer interior materials, and adaptive cruise control.
- SR: Choose this if you want the sportier look and the larger 18-inch wheels, while still keeping the same core safety and tech advantages as the SV.
- SR Premium: This is the pick if you want the most equipment, including the 360-degree camera system and the available premium Bose audio setup.
Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup, while adaptive cruise control starts with SV and SR, and the 360-degree camera is reserved for SR Premium.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Sentra?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make comparison worthwhile.
- Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 224 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.79% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $17,476 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Nissan Sentra's resale value?
The current average of $17,476 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,039 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers' favour, which can make the Sentra easier to purchase now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you buy at the current average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim.
Because the model has strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal as an efficient compact sedan, demand should remain reasonably steady. Well-equipped trims with the right condition and service history should be easier to move later than a neglected example.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Nissan Sentra safe?
The 2021 Nissan Sentra receives a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, and it includes intelligent forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a backup camera, rear sonar, vehicle dynamic control with traction control, high-beam assist, and intelligent driver alertness. Base S models get standard cruise control, while SV and SR add adaptive cruise control, and SR Premium adds a 360-degree camera system.
Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Sentra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.79% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It pairs a redesigned cabin with strong safety, tech, and efficiency.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $19,006 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,476 CAD average.
- It feels more current as part of the newer generation.
The bottom line: The 2021 is the better buy if you want the strongest value and a well-rounded compact sedan with proven owner satisfaction. If you can stretch for the 2022, you may prefer its newer-year positioning, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2021 because the current market is already offering softer pricing and decent deal availability.
