Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Nissan Rogue earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the smooth and refined ride, roomy interior, and impressive features. They also highlight the attractive design and strong value for the price, which fits the Rogue’s role as a practical compact SUV with broad appeal.

Nissan’s warranty coverage includes three years or 60,000 kilometres of basic coverage and five years or 100,000 kilometres of powertrain coverage, which helps reduce early ownership risk. For used buyers, the main long-term watch-outs are the same ones owners mention: make sure the vehicle meets your power and storage expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base setup gives you the redesigned body, standard LED headlamps, and a strong equipment list, but higher trims add more comfort and convenience features. The SV AWD with the Premium Package adds leatherette upholstery, heated rear seats, manual rear sunshades, and a power liftgate, while the Platinum brings semi-aniline quilted Nappa leather and a more upscale cabin.
• Powertrain: Every Rogue uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT. Front-wheel drive is standard on lower grades, while all-wheel drive is available and adds cost on S and SV models.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Rogue and includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and a driver alertness feature. ProPILOT Assist is added on the SV and brings hands-on highway driving assistance with adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: Most models use an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, hands-free text messaging, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The SV adds an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot, more USB ports, and NissanConnect services, while the Platinum upgrades to a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a 10.8-inch head-up display, and a Bose 10-speaker audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Rogue is rated at 8.1 L/100 km combined with front-wheel drive and 8.3 L/100 km combined with all-wheel drive. City and highway figures are 8.9 and 7.0 L/100 km for FWD, and 9.2 and 7.2 L/100 km for AWD.

Which 2021 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you the redesigned Rogue, standard safety tech, and the core infotainment setup. It makes the most sense if you want the new-generation Rogue experience without paying for extras you may not need.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful everyday upgrades like the Wi-Fi hotspot, extra USB ports, NissanConnect services, and available ProPILOT Assist. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale choice, with the larger 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, head-up display, Bose audio, and a more premium interior. Choose it if you want the most comfort and technology the Rogue offers.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across the line, while ProPILOT Assist arrives on the SV and adds more advanced highway assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 554 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.69% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,359 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $21,359 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,036 CAD.

That price decline suggests the Rogue has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer market than owners saw a year ago. If you buy well now, you may be starting from a more favourable entry price than previous shoppers did.

The Rogue’s broad appeal should still help support demand, especially because it combines a roomy cabin, strong equipment levels, and a good reputation with owners.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with earlier examples scoring three stars in frontal crash testing before later versions were upgraded to four stars.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Rogue and includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and a driver alertness feature. ProPILOT Assist is added on the SV, and the Platinum’s Navi-link version can also assist with steering and slowing through curves.

The main caveat is that early-release versions had weaker frontal crash results before Nissan made adjustments, so it is worth confirming which build you are looking at.

Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a new platform, new engine, and broader improvements across the range.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $17,533 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,359 CAD average.
• It is a familiar, comfortable choice with useful cargo space.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,449 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,359 CAD average.
• It adds a new turbocharged engine and stronger fuel efficiency.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, redesign benefits, and owner satisfaction, the 2021 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2020 can still make sense; if you want the newer powertrain and efficiency gains, the 2022 is the upgrade path.
