What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base setup gives you the redesigned Rogue’s core strengths, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features. The SV AWD with the Premium Package adds heated rear seats, manual rear sunshades, and a power liftgate, while the Platinum brings semi-aniline quilted Nappa leather and more upscale interior treatment.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT. There is no alternate powertrain, so every used Rogue in this generation uses the same basic mechanical formula.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, with forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and driver alertness monitoring. ProPILOT Assist is added on the SV and includes adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: Most models use an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, hands-free text messaging, and SiriusXM. The Platinum upgrades to a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless charging, though wireless Android Auto is not available.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Rogue can use 8.9 L/100 km city, 7.0 L/100 km highway, and 8.1 L/100 km combined in front-wheel drive form, or 9.2 L/100 km city, 7.2 L/100 km highway, and 8.3 L/100 km combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2021 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you the redesigned Rogue’s standard safety suite, 8-inch touchscreen, and core comfort and practicality. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry price and don’t need extra convenience features.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful everyday upgrades, including available all-wheel drive, more USB ports, in-car Wi-Fi hotspot access, NissanConnect services, and ProPILOT Assist. If you want the strongest balance of equipment and price, this is the one to target.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale choice, with a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a head-up display, Bose audio, and richer interior materials. It suits you best if you want the most premium Rogue experience.

Safety Shield 360 is standard on every trim, while ProPILOT Assist arrives on the SV and adds more highway-driving support.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 559 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.74% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $20,997 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $20,997 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,919 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you’re buying now, but it also means a future seller may face a more competitive market. If prices stabilise, today’s lower entry point could help support demand from value-focused shoppers. The Rogue’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and practical feature set should help it remain attractive to used buyers over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2021 Rogue received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with three-star frontal crash ratings on earlier examples that were later improved to four-star ratings.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Rogue and includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and driver alertness monitoring. ProPILOT Assist is added on the SV, and the Platinum’s Navi-link version can assist with steering and slowing through curves. The main caveat is that earlier examples had weaker frontal crash results before Nissan’s updates.

Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings broad improvements across the range, not just the top trim.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $17,451 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $20,997 CAD average.
• It offers comfort, driving ease, cargo space, and fuel economy as key strengths.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,271 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $20,997 CAD average.
• It adds a new turbocharged engine and improved efficiency.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the best all-around choice if you want the redesigned Rogue’s stronger value, safety, and owner satisfaction. If price is your top priority, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 is worth a look if you want the newer powertrain and can stretch your budget.
