The Altima’s standard all-wheel drive and broad safety equipment should help reduce ownership stress, but used buyers should still check maintenance history and feature operation carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Altima?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Altima can feel a little stripped-down, while higher trims add stitching to the dash and seats, richer materials, and better overall cabin feel. Standard LED lighting and 17-inch to 19-inch alloy wheels help the exterior stay current.
• Powertrain: You get a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 182 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with an Xtronic CVT. All-wheel drive is standard in Canada, and the drivetrain can send up to 50% of torque to the rear wheels when needed.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Altima and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, lane-departure warning, and high-beam assist. ProPilot Assist is reserved for the Platinum grade.
• Infotainment: All models get an 8-inch NissanConnect touchscreen, a 7-inch advanced Drive-Assist display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, two USB-C ports, and an aux input. SiriusXM is standard on all but the base model, while navigation and connected services are added on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The base model is rated at 9.1 L/100 km city, 6.5 highway, and 7.9 combined. SR and Platinum grades use slightly more at 9.3 L/100 km city, 6.7 highway, and 8.1 combined.

Which 2021 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2021 Nissan Altima is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SR, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Altima formula with standard all-wheel drive, the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Nissan Safety Shield 360. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra comfort and convenience upgrades.
• SR: This is the best-value trim for most buyers because it sits in the middle of the range and is specifically called out as a good choice. It adds more equipment and is the trim most shoppers should start with if they want a balanced mix of value and features.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped Altima, adding leather seating appointments, 19-inch alloy wheels, around-view monitor, ProPilot Assist, and more premium convenience features. It suits you best if you want the most advanced tech and the most upscale feel.

ProPilot Assist is standard only on the Platinum grade, while the rest of the safety suite is standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Altima?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 37 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.57% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,990 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $20,034 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,452 CAD.

That softer pricing trend suggests the Altima is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly. If you plan to sell later, you may not recover as much as owners did a year ago unless market conditions improve.

The good news is that the model’s broad appeal, standard all-wheel drive, and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand over time. If you keep the car in good condition and maintain it properly, those traits should help it remain competitive in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2021 Nissan Altima earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Altima and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, lane-departure warning, and high-beam assist. ProPilot Assist is available on the Platinum grade and adds intelligent forward collision warning, intelligent lane intervention, traffic sign recognition, intelligent driver alertness, and adaptive cruise control.

Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines standard all-wheel drive with strong safety equipment and a well-rounded feature set.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $19,164 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $20,034 CAD average.
• It offers standard all-wheel drive and broad appeal for buyers who want extra traction.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,656 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $20,034 CAD average.
• It keeps the standard AWD formula and adds a sporty Midnight Edition package in SR trim.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the best all-around pick if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly route, while the 2022 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative.
