CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Mazda CX-30
overall

Summary
With 34 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,495 CAD, 35.3% of 2021 Mazda CX-30 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Mazda CX-30 4.77 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Mazda CX-30 stands out by blending mainstream practicality with a more premium feel than many buyers expect from a subcompact SUV. In the 2.5 Turbo form, it is described as pairing effortless acceleration and engaging driving dynamics with premium design and impressive technologies. That combination gives it a distinctive character: it aims to feel polished and satisfying rather than simply chasing outright performance.
What makes it especially appealing is the way it balances confidence, capability, style, and value. The available turbocharged version is presented as a meaningful boost in power, yet it is still not positioned as a hardcore performance model. Instead, its appeal lies in delivering a more upscale experience at a price that remains below traditional luxury brands. Owners also tend to praise its sporty design, interior quality, and fun-to-drive nature, which reinforces the impression that this is a small SUV with a more refined personality than its size might suggest.
There are some trade-offs, though. The focus on style and driving enjoyment means it is not trying to be the most extreme performance choice, and some owners would like more back seat legroom and additional USB ports. Even so, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 remains distinctive because it offers a premium look and feel, strong driving appeal, and a sense of value that helps it bridge the gap between mainstream and luxury.

This is a great small SUV. It feels roomy inside and the ride is very smooth. The premium package has all the bells and whistles I need. With regular maintenance this car will last a long time.

As a loyal VW customer, I went to check out the new Taos suv when it arrived in showrooms. It was, to say the least, uninspiring and dull. Lots of cheap looking plastic everywhere. I had seen the CX-30 on tv, and a Mazda dealer was nearby. One look and I was blown away. Amazing minimalist design—both inside and out. And the quality of the interior materials was nothing like I’ve seen outside a true luxury car. And then I drove it—much more nimble and quicker than the VW. So sporty, so much luxury, so much style. Then looking at the price, the decision to buy the Mazda was quickly made. For a comparably equipped car, it was about $8000 less than the VW. No, I’m not making this up. It’s fun to drive and I’m laughing all the way to the bank. Thank you, Mazda.

After reviewing various sources for performance and reliability I find this vehicle to be a good fit for using around town and also in inclement weather driving. I would not use this for offroad driving. It does have some features that should avail it to gravel roads and fire road travel. It offers ample cargo spaces. The amenities available are modern and well placed in the vehicle. I would compare this favorably to the Honda CR-V and other Suburban SUV type vehicles.

This is my seventh Mazda, so no surprises there. The car drives great and has all the bells and whistles. There is nothing in this segment that even comes close to the driving dynamics and premium interiors of this compact crossover.

How much does the 2021 Mazda CX-30 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $24,800 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $23,947 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $25,833 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $25,833 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.00% |
Prices have softened 4.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 174 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Mazda CX-30 a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Mazda CX-30 earns a 4.77/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its sporty design, interior quality, and fun-to-drive nature. The CX-30 also stands out for its luxury feel at an affordable price, which fits its role as a small SUV that aims to feel more polished than many mainstream rivals. That makes it a strong fit if you want everyday practicality with a more premium personality.
With 29.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.
Is the 2021 Mazda CX-30 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with many shoppers describing it as fun to drive while still feeling upscale and easy to live with. Mazda’s tuning also aims for a more satisfying, confidence-inspiring driving experience rather than chasing raw speed, which supports the impression of a well-sorted small SUV.
Mazda also positions the CX-30 as a premium-feeling model without luxury-brand pricing, which can be a plus for long-term ownership if you want refinement without stretching too far. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that some examples may show the usual wear-and-tear compromises of a small SUV, especially if you need more rear-seat space or extra convenience features.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda CX-30?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The GT trim adds black leather or white leather, a frameless rearview mirror, a navigation system, SiriusXM satellite radio, a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, an Active Driving Display, adaptive front lighting, front and rear parking sensors, and rear automatic emergency braking. The lower grades are more basic, so you should check whether the features you want are standard or reserved for GT.
- Powertrain: The turbocharged Skyactiv 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard i-Activ all-wheel drive. Output varies with fuel octane, and the setup is tuned for strong, effortless acceleration rather than hardcore performance.
- Safety package: Every CX-30 Turbo includes a full collection of safety features and advanced driver-assistance systems. The GT trim adds adaptive front lighting, front and rear parking sensors, and rear automatic emergency braking. There is no high-speed lane-centring assistance function.
- Infotainment: The dashboard display is 8.8 inches and is not a touchscreen. You get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the GT trim adds navigation and a premium Bose audio system. The system relies on physical controls and voice commands rather than touch input.
- Fuel efficiency: The official combined fuel consumption is 9.3 L/100 km, and the road test average was 9.6 L/100 km.
Which 2021 Mazda CX-30 trim should I buy?
The 2021 Mazda CX-30 is offered in 1 trim level: GT Turbo.
Here's the short version:
The GT Turbo: is the one to buy if you want the full CX-30 experience, because it bundles the turbocharged engine with the most complete equipment list. It adds the premium audio system, navigation, head-up display, adaptive front lighting, parking sensors, and rear automatic emergency braking, so it is the best-value choice if you want the most features and the strongest upscale feel in one package.
The GT trim also includes the safety upgrades noted above, which makes it the most complete version of this model year.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda CX-30?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 174 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,947 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Mazda CX-30's resale value?
The current average of $24,800 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,833 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favourable for buyers, which can make resale planning more important if you expect to sell in the near future. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less room for depreciation pressure later, especially if the market stays soft.
For a future seller, the key is to keep the vehicle in strong condition and avoid overpaying upfront. A model with a premium feel and broad appeal can still attract interest, but resale value will depend heavily on how well it is presented when you list it.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Mazda CX-30 safe?
The Mazda CX-30 Turbo earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment except rollover resistance, where it receives a four-star rating.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Mazda equips every CX-30 Turbo with a full collection of safety features and advanced driver-assistance systems. These are described as effective in ways that please rather than irritate, and the package includes the usual suspects for this class. The GT trim adds adaptive front lighting, front and rear parking sensors, and rear automatic emergency braking.
One caveat is that there is no high-speed lane-centring assistance function.
Should I buy a 2021 Mazda CX-30 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It pairs effortless acceleration with premium design and impressive technologies.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $24,826 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,800 CAD average.
- It adds a more spacious cabin and keeps the upscale, fun-to-drive character.
The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the strongest value and the same premium-feeling formula at a slightly lower average price. If you are willing to spend a bit more for a newer model year with a roomier cabin, the 2022 is the sensible alternative.
