Is the 2021 Kia Seltos a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Kia Seltos earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its value, great looks, comfortable handling, and generous standard equipment. That lines up well with the Seltos’ role as a practical subcompact SUV that aims to feel more substantial than many rivals, while still keeping the cabin and cargo space you want for everyday use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the only trim offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive in Canada, and it brings 16-inch steel wheels, manually adjustable heated front seats, remote keyless entry, power windows with a one-touch-down driver’s window, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The EX adds 17-inch machine-finish alloy wheels, solar glass front windows, a sunroof with power sunshade, LED interior lighting, automatic climate control, and full leatherette upholstery. The EX Premium adds the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, SiriusXM satellite radio, a wireless phone charger, LED headlights and fog lamps, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting. The SX Turbo adds the more powerful engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, an upgraded audio system, and additional driver-assistance features.
• Powertrain: The LX, EX, and EX Premium use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 146 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The SX Turbo uses a turbocharged and intercooled 1.6-litre four-cylinder with 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and standard AWD. The base engine is fine around town, but it feels short on power at highway speeds.
• Safety package: The Seltos includes a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and child-seat anchor latches. In Canada, the base LX also includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a feature that can detect if it is safe to exit the vehicle when parallel parking on the street. All trims but the base LX include collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. The EX Premium and SX Turbo add adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go.
• Infotainment: The LX and EX come with an 8-inch touchscreen and a 3.5-inch TFT digital screen in the instrument panel. The EX Premium and SX Turbo upgrade to a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital display screen in the instrument panel. The larger screen can show Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while still leaving room for radio, climate, or navigation data. Wireless phone charging is included on the EX Premium, and the SX Turbo adds a Bose premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-litre engine with front-wheel drive is the most efficient setup at 8.2 L/100 km city, 7.1 highway, and 7.7 combined. With AWD, that engine rates at 8.8 L/100 km city, 7.6 highway, and 8.2 combined. The 1.6-litre AWD test vehicle is rated at 9.4 city, 7.9 highway, and 8.7 combined.

Which 2021 Kia Seltos trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Seltos is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX Premium, and SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want useful standard equipment, including heated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, and key safety tech such as blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. It is also the only trim available with front-wheel drive in Canada.
• EX: This is the trim to focus on if you want the best balance of price and comfort upgrades, since it adds a sunroof, automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, and nicer exterior details without jumping to the top-end price.
• EX Premium: This is the best-value upgrade if you want the richer tech and comfort package, including the larger 10.25-inch screen, wireless phone charger, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and LED headlights and fog lamps.
• SX Turbo: Choose this if you want the strongest engine and the most complete feature set, including the turbocharged powertrain, upgraded audio, and additional driver-assistance features.

The safety package is not standard on the base LX, so if driver-assistance tech matters to you, look closely at EX and above.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 304 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.89% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,293 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Seltos's resale value?

The current average of $19,425 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,301 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you should expect more competition from similarly equipped listings, especially if your vehicle is a higher-trim example without standout options.

The good news is that the Seltos still has broad appeal thanks to its cabin quality, space, and feature content. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Seltos safe?

The 2021 Kia Seltos earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, including four-star ratings for frontal crash and rollover and five-star ratings for side impacts.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Seltos comes standard with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and child-seat anchor latches.

A key caveat is that the IIHS rating was docked for headlights on some trims and for ease of use in the LATCH system, so trim choice matters if safety equipment is a priority.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Seltos or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 launches the Seltos with a high-quality cabin, strong space, and the latest infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,149 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,425 CAD average.
• It adds a practical mix of space, easy-to-use technology, and a strong warranty.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the smarter starting point because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2022 is worth a look for buyers who prioritise warranty coverage and a slightly updated ownership experience.
