How much does the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.9/5, and the expert rating is 5.67/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the luxurious cabin, strong engine performance, advanced technology, and comfortable interior. The Sierra also fits well if you want a full-size pickup with a more upscale presentation and distinctive styling rather than a purely work-focused truck.

The model’s broad appeal comes from that mix of capability and comfort, especially if you value a premium-feeling interior and useful tech in a truck. It also lands in a market where 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with many reviewers highlighting its strong performance and comfortable, well-equipped cabin. The review summary also suggests buyers tend to count on its value and overall quality, even if some features require extra packages.

The Duramax diesel powertrain is described as a bargain and the transmission is praised for working smoothly, which supports confidence in long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about basic dependability and more about making sure the truck has the equipment you want without unexpected package-related compromises.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Sierra 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Denali is the upscale choice, while the AT4 adds off-road-focused hardware such as a suspension lift, skid plates, a locking rear differential, and unique exterior details. The Elevation is the value-minded trim to watch if you want to keep costs in check while still getting a custom look and access to options.
• Powertrain: The Duramax 3.0-litre turbodiesel six-cylinder is the standout engine here, with strong torque and a smooth 10-speed automatic. It also supports impressive towing and payload capability when properly equipped.
• Safety package: Forward collision warning, front pedestrian braking, and automatic emergency braking are available, while blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning come on the Denali and are optional on other trims. Lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and a Safety Alert Seat are also available depending on trim.
• Infotainment: Look for the 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and the 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. The optional Technology Package adds a surround-view camera, trailer- and bed-view cameras, a rear camera mirror, a 15-inch head-up display, and an 8-inch driver information display.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax diesel is rated at 9.1 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test truck averaged 11.1 L/100 km in mixed conditions.

Which 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 3 trim levels: Elevation, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation: This is the best-value trim if you want to keep the price under control while still getting a custom appearance and room to add options. It makes the most sense for buyers who want a well-equipped Sierra without drifting too far into luxury-truck pricing.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the off-road-focused setup, including the lifted suspension, skid plates, locking rear differential, and rugged hardware. It suits you best if you want capability and a more adventurous personality.
• Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the most upscale presentation and the strongest premium appeal. It’s the right choice if you want the Sierra’s most polished feel and are willing to pay for it.

The Denali includes blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning, which are optional on other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Sierra 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should have some room to shop carefully without waiting forever.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 604 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.91% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $39,376 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $39,376 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,737 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may face more competition if the market stays loose. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in strong condition, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger hit later.

The Sierra’s premium positioning and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, especially for well-equipped examples with desirable powertrains and trims. Still, resale will depend heavily on how much you pay now and how much equipment your truck has when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it a Marginal result for the front passenger in the small-overlap frontal test and a Poor rating for its headlights.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

GMC offers forward collision warning, front pedestrian braking, and automatic emergency braking, but they are not standard across the lineup. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning come on the Denali and are optional on other trims, while lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and a Safety Alert Seat are also available depending on trim.

The main caveat is that the Sierra’s crash-test results are weaker than you might expect for a premium-branded truck, so you should pay close attention to the safety equipment on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.91% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the familiar Sierra formula while adding useful tech and the available Duramax diesel.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $46,825 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $39,376 CAD average.
• It brings a major makeover with a bolder design, a richer cabin, and more standard high-end technology.

The 2021 makes the most sense if you want a lower entry price and still like the Sierra’s upscale feel, strong owner approval, and available diesel efficiency. If you want the newer redesign and can stretch your budget, the 2022 is the better upgrade path; otherwise, the 2021 is the smarter buy for price-sensitive shoppers.
