For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that the Durango’s age and feature gaps can make condition, maintenance history, and equipment level especially important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Lower trims use cloth upholstery and an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims move to more premium materials and a 10.1-inch screen. The base setup is also lighter on safety equipment, so you should check carefully for the features you want.
• Powertrain: You can find a 3.6-litre V6, 5.7-litre HEMI V8, 392 HEMI V8, and supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8. The V6 is the efficiency-minded choice, while the V8s are for stronger performance and towing.
• Safety package: The Durango comes standard with a back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim or package, you can add adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get a 10.1-inch screen with Uconnect 5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the larger screen is the one that runs the new system.
• Fuel efficiency: Some shoppers have raised concerns about fuel efficiency, and the Durango is also described as less efficient than some rivals.

Which 2021 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2021 Dodge Durango is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, and R/T.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the standard 8.4-inch touchscreen plus the V6 powertrain. It makes sense if you want the Durango’s space and character without chasing extra equipment.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the V6 and adds more of the Durango’s available convenience and family-friendly appeal. It also supports the rear-seat entertainment system.
• Citadel: This trim moves the Durango further upmarket with more premium interior appointments and the option to upgrade to the 5.7-litre V8. It suits you if comfort and a richer cabin matter most.
• R/T: This is the performance-focused choice, with the 5.7-litre V8 standard and SRT Performance Pages included. It also supports the rear-seat entertainment system and the Tow N Go Package.

The safety package is limited on lower trims, so it is worth checking which driver-assistance features are included before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it rewards shoppers who compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 270 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.90% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,618 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $32,791 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,532 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right point. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have less depreciation pressure than someone who paid closer to the year-round high. Strong demand for the Durango’s space, power, and family usefulness should help support interest over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2021 Dodge Durango earns a Marginal rating from IIHS for a small overlap frontal impact on the driver’s side, and a five-star side crash-test rating and a four-star front crash and rollover rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment is limited to a federally mandated back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim or package, you can add adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.

The main caveat is that the Durango falls short of many rivals on standard active safety features, and the IIHS small-overlap result is a notable weakness.

Should I buy a 2021 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the new SRT Hellcat variant and the available Tow N Go Package.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,578 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $32,791 CAD average.
• It offers spacious family-hauler practicality with strong performance options.

The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the updated infotainment, stronger feature mix, and the year’s performance additions. If your priority is lower purchase price, the 2020 is the better value play, especially if you can live with its older-feeling feature set.
