What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trailblazer’s styling changes by trim, with Activ bringing a more rugged look, skid plate trim, unique 17-inch wheels, sport terrain tyres, a larger grille, and standard two-tone paint. The interior is praised for its layout and displays, but hard shiny plastic is more noticeable as the price climbs.
• Powertrain: LS and LT use a turbocharged 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine with 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. Other versions use a turbo 1.3-litre 3-cylinder with 155 hp and 174 lb-ft, standard AWD, and a 9-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. Depending on trim, you can also get blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The standard system has a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth for two phones, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, Teen Driver, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The upgraded system adds an 8-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, and cloud-connected personalisation.
• Fuel efficiency: On the testing loop, the Trailblazer Activ AWD averaged 8.8 L/100 km, versus an official combined rating of 7.6 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Trailblazer’s core value proposition with the standard 1.2-litre engine and front-wheel drive. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and are comfortable with the simpler setup.
• LT: This is the trim to watch if you want the best balance of equipment and price. It keeps the Trailblazer’s affordable character while giving you a more complete everyday package than the LS.
• Activ: This is the best fit if you want the more rugged look and the standard AWD powertrain. It adds the tougher appearance, skid plate trim, unique wheels, and sport terrain tyres, so it suits you if style and all-weather confidence matter.
• RS: This is the sportier-looking choice, and it also gets the more powerful AWD powertrain. Pick it if you want the Trailblazer with the most road presence and a more upscale feel.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control depend on trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 100 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.92% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,332 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $19,332 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,268 CAD.

That price drop suggests the Trailblazer has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s higher level. The market still shows enough demand to support resale, especially for well-equipped examples with strong condition and desirable trims.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The 2021 Trailblazer earns a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with a four-star rating for rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, and it includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. You also get 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, Teen Driver technology, and subscription-based automatic collision notification service. Depending on trim, you can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control.

The main caveat is that the IIHS noted slight deductions for headlights on some grades and for LATCH connector ease of use. In testing, the forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping systems also showed some inconsistency.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings strong technology, standard Chevy Safety Assist, and a value-focused entry point beneath the Equinox.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,774 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,332 CAD average.
• It adds a heated steering wheel and new paint colours.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and the equipment list is still strong. If you are willing to pay more for a few convenience updates, the 2022 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2021.
