What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS and LT are the simpler, more affordable versions, while the Activ adds a more rugged appearance with skid plate trim, unique 17-inch wheels, sport terrain tyres, a larger grille, and standard two-tone paint. The RS is also part of the lineup, and the Activ and RS are the trims that get standard all-wheel drive.
• Powertrain: The LS and LT use a turbocharged 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine with 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. Other versions use a turbo 1.3-litre 3-cylinder with 155 hp and 174 lb-ft, standard AWD, and a 9-speed automatic. The stronger engine is the better fit if you want more relaxed passing and highway performance.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. Depending on trim level, you can also get blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth pairing for two smartphones, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, Teen Driver technology, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An upgraded system for the Activ and RS adds an 8-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, and cloud-connected vehicle personalisation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Activ AWD test vehicle averaged 8.8 litres per 100 kilometres, and the official combined rating is 7.6 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it makes the Trailblazer’s value case with the standard 1.2-litre turbo engine, CVT, and front-wheel drive. It suits you if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the stronger drivetrain and extra equipment found higher up.
• LT: This is the better-value choice if you want the Trailblazer’s core strengths without stretching too far. It keeps the affordable, practical formula but gives you a more flexible starting point for the available tech and safety equipment.
• Activ: This is the best fit if you want the more rugged look and the stronger 1.3-litre turbo drivetrain with standard AWD. It adds skid plate trim, unique wheels, sport terrain tyres, and two-tone paint, making it the most distinctive choice for buyers who want style and traction.
• RS: This trim is for you if you want the sportiest appearance and the richer available tech experience. It also benefits from the stronger drivetrain and standard AWD, so it makes sense if you want a more upscale-feeling Trailblazer.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, while blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assistance, the high-definition camera, and adaptive cruise control depend on trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 110 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.16% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,424 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $19,424 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,734 CAD.

That price drop suggests the Trailblazer has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer resale environment than they would have a year ago. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less depreciation risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s higher pricing.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The 2021 Trailblazer earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with a four-star rating for rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, and it includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. You also get 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, Teen Driver technology, and subscription-based automatic collision notification service.

Depending on trim level, you can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control.

IIHS did note slight deductions for headlights on some grades and ease of use on the LATCH connectors for child seats.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It launched as a new entry-point Trailblazer with strong technology and standard Chevy Safety Assist.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,109 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,424 CAD average.
• It adds a heated steering wheel, new paint colours, and a dealer-installed trailering package.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the lowest current price and strong tech for the money. If you can spend more and want a few extra convenience features, the 2022 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2021.
